I hope some one can guide me on this. I have a friend that was given a 91 Explorer Sport. The little SUV is in very good shape even though it needs a front bumper, other than that, nice truck. It owner was a female who on ly frove it to work. It has never been off road. Well everthing was great intill one day it just would not start. She had it looked at and the shop told her the flex plate was broke and needed to be replaced. Well she just bought a new car. After a conversation with my friend he was the new owner of a SUV. He replaced the flex plate and drove the car for a year untill it broke again. Now it has set for about 2 years and I am trying to talk him out of it. I could really use a small SUV for camping and other things.
My question is does anyone know anything about the "flex plate" in an explorer? Is this something that is common to break for this SUV? I really don't want to open a can of worms but if the car is free then what do I have to loose...
