Ford dealer says I need a new turbo mount to partially stop muffler drone on 2006 6.0.
They say it won't completely stop it. I guess my question is, what's the point? Why bother with a half fix.
Has anyone heard of this fix or this problem?
Thanks
its a redesigned pedestal beefed up to dampen the noise. Its kind of like taking an aspirin for a toothache--you dont feel it, but the problem is still there. Have them check if the y pipe needs to be "unloaded". They should know what you are talking about.
So I know what you are talking about, please explain.
As I said in an earlier post, it only did it about 42-50 mph.
After the shutter at shutdown, it is from about 5 mph up and now really noticeable at 30- 50 mph.
On a happy note, the oil leak at the bell housing seems to have stopped leaking and it acts like the motor has been "freed". Put you on the seat if you kick the automatic in low gear.
Thanks, I will ask when I go in to have replacement done.
Would you have the replacement done to your truck?
Will an after market muffler cure this problem with out them having to tear into engine?
They also told me it was about a 4 hour job. Sound about right?
Best I could tell for checking...let it idol for 15 minutes, drove it for test drive, came back said they could hear it too, and needed new mount.
Will order and call me when it comes in.
The replacement pedastal 'also' has an added cast iron A-Brace bracket that goes from the compressor/turbine housing, to the HPOP cover bolts to add additional dampening.. The A-brace and pipe neutralizing are done prior to the pedastal for an improvement, but the complete kit worked like a charm on mine.. My 05 'developed' the drone at 15K maybe, and the kit was added.. MUCH better..
I had this done on my 2003 in January. My drone was consistently annoying at about 1700 rpm. The new turbo mount seemed to help for a couple of weeks, but the drone returned, but at a lower rpm.
I too would like to know if an aftermarket exhaust fixes this.
