What do i need?

I have a leak between the transfer case and (T-18) transmission. The oil is from the transmission and therefore is coming from the rear oil seal on the transmission (yes I looked but did not yet pull). What do I need besides new isolators (to keep the problem from reoccuring), the rear oil seal, and the gasket for the housing? (Shipping is expensive so I dont want to forget something) Can I just pull the transfer case and leave the transmission up while replacing? How heavy is the transfer case? It is a NP 208F?

Also the Power steering pump blew the high pressure line and I replaced the o-ring temporarily with one from the hardware store (bad idea, wrong kind I know) The pump holds oil with the line literally tied in place but will blow back off if I untie it. Am I overpressure for some reason, or do I just need to replace the line? Does the fitting into which the high pressure line goes ever wear and need replaced? Hopefully I can find a Saginaw unit to replace it with instead. I hate the stupid stock whiney pump!

Does anybody make a new shift **** to replace the old one when the splines wear round on a T-18?

Try this guy for a replacement ****. http://www.koolknobs.com He does only custom work but the prices are right for the kind of results he gets.

Don't know enough about the transmission seals to give you a good answer but I was of the impression that the tranny typically found in front of the NP 208 was the NP 435. Didn't realize the T-18 made it into the fullsize Bronco. The T-case probably tips the scales somewhere between 50 and 75 pounds with the low end being more likely. You might want to support the tranny if there is no rear support once the t-case is removed. But if there is a rear tranny support, and you can maneuver well enough to replace what needs replacing then yeah, leave the trannsimission in there.

With the high pressure line, its probably just easier to replace the whole thing. The O-ring can be replaced but it rarely holds as well or as long as the one that comes on the line to begin with in my experience. If you are going to do the Saginaw swap might as well wait until you have the rest of the pieces since the high pressure line for it is different anyway. (There may be an adaptor available by now though, not sure).

I cannot now recall how I came to the conclusion that that was the transmission I had. I have not had any luck with any of the decoders or books. It does have OD, I dont think the NP435 came with OD. I am guessing that it is an T 19 now. The tag says :

RP AG CE 30
E4 TR GA 04 09

I found online that the TC weighs 79lbs. and is chain drive and not heavy duty. I have not been able to locate any transmission isolators on Jeffs Bronco Graveyard, guess I need to know which trans I have first! Next I'm going to have to figure the rear end!

The plate for the rear axle is WFL C 4F05
3L55 8 8S807A
I'll have to check my build sheet if I can find it and see if it's in there. I found my build sheet under my carpet below the drivers seat!

Ok, I am going to assume we are talking about the 84 model listed in your profile. The transmission went to a NP435 in 1981 if I am recalling correctly. The T-18 was not an O/D transmission. The rear axle is an 8.8 and the ratio is 3.55:1 with a limited slip setup.

Well, still no luck with the transmission. It is not a NP 435 as was on my green truck in gallery, has no side cover. It has an integral bellhousing with no inspection cover and looks very similar to the T19 BUT.. Has FORD cast into it with no 1301 or 1309 or NP etc... It was a California deal with overdrive. First gear is not nearly as low as was my NP 435 nor is the tower the same. I am stumped!

Chilton lists a Ford RUG 4 spd OD trans. Maybe that's it!

Now I dont feel as stupid! Who put this obscure piece of crap in my truck? All of the sympotms were there. For what it's worth, never put one in your Bronco. 1st gear is a lot of clutch away from stop and second is a big jump from 3rd. Now maybe I will have a NP 435, soon.

Hehehe... no wonder the timeline that I referenced to try and find out didn't actually list the model number. I learned something today, thanks.

Now I dont think I'll worry running it with the oil seal spewing. Might be a good excuse when it blows, though I'll keep adding thick'ol to it.
