Light in Canopy?

I would like to wire up a light for my pickup truck canopy. I was wondering if anyone has a wiring diagram, or better yet, a recommendation as to what plug/wire I could use to get 12 volt power back at the tailgate area. I have the brake light working, I used the trailer connector. But I do not know if there is a wire that would supply power for an interior light in my canopy. I would like it to be independant (I don't want to open the truck doors or turn on a switch in the cab) I would like to be able to turn it on and off from the switch on the light in the canopy. I seems that running a new wire past the fuel tank is a problem. Any hints/tips would be appreciated.

Thx, Sierracierra

What is the problem? You should be able to fish it through. If your trailer plug is not set up for aux 12 volt power, you are going to have to run a new wire. Get a fuse and hook it to point #3 in the diagram below. Then after the fuse, run it all the way back under the cab, and run it up to the camper however you want.

Thanks, I guess I could do that, but I was wondering if Ford has a wire in the harness going to the rear of the truck I could use. I drive alot on gravel roads and would like the wire to be as protected as possible, hence the desire to find one "in the harness". I'm not familiar with the "trailer plug is not set up for aux 12 volt power", is/was that an option? If you are referring to the 12 volts to charge the trailer battery while towing, it seems to only have power when the truck is running. The voltage is not there when the truck is turned off.

Thanks again,
Sierracierra

You are correct, I forgot that it cut off when the key was off. I do not know of any extra wires in the harness. If you tie it up good with wire ties, you should be ok. The fuse you will use will blow if anything happens.
