$2.85 is the cheapest here. Should be less -- the pipeline goes right past town. I can see a refinery from my deck.

Cheap Gas?

Here's one for you guys, on the cheap gas. Here in ON. Canada we are paying, $1.06 per litre. Which works out very close to one U.S. quart. Multiply that by 4=$4.24 per Gal.
convert the $4.24 CDN$ to U.S. gives you $3.74 per gal U.S. As for the refineries we have at least 3 major ones about 60 miles from our town.
I heard recently the the East coast of Canada, better known as the Maritime Provinces has capped the gas prices for now at $1.16 per litre, times 4= $4.64 CDN. or $4.10 U.S. per Gal.
Kind of makes you wonder, when again I just heard recently that Exon turned a profit of 10 Billion $. Thats only one major company, combine the rest and I wonder what you would come up with for a total.

record profits, yet higher prices per barrel of oil. Makes ya wonder. Every gas station in Two Harbors is $2.99 for 87 octane. No cheaper deal around here.

Supply and demand at its best, if you are want to drive a gas guzzleing SUV you have to be wiling to pay the price. I am glad I have a short trip to work and a motorcycle as a second vehicle.

$2.93 where I fill up.

This sure gets hashed around a lot these days........

The price of crude oil is completely controlled by OPEC and the market. (AKA supply and demand)

There are millions of people in China and India for example that as much as 10 years ago did not own or drive cars that are buying and driving cars now. (ECON 101 people!)

The wholesale price of gasoline internationally is pretty much the same every where.

Retail prices (Pump prices) are Wholsale + tax. Fuel taxes are a little higher in Canada so therefore, gas prices are a little higher in Canada.

If we're going to compare prices between countries lets check the math accurately.

1 US Gallon= 3.78l so @ $1.06 CN/liter= 1.06 x 3.78= approx $4.07 cn per US gallon

Friday 28 JUL the exchange rate was 1.1297 cn to the USD

That makes gasoline in ONT on Friday $3.603 USD per gallon. (By the way gasoline in Hawaii is over $4 USD right now). Locally here gasoline is anywhere from $2.90-3.30 /US gal

How much profit should any company make? Obviously this is a rhetorical question. The alternative is to have govt price controls. That has been tried ....it never works.

And if govt should control fuel prices should there be govt support of oil companies in bad times? (does anyone remember the HUGE losses(billions) incurred by all the major oil companies in the 90's when oil prices were dropping?) All the oil conpanies (with some exceptions in other countries) are public companies. I.E. they issue stock that anyone can buy.

Why shouldn't a public company make money?

Sorry people...on my soapbox AGAIN!.....

Anyone see that cool '53 F-800 Marmon Harrington 4x4 dump truck on EBAY?

Cheers,

Rick

I just had to post on this: There is no cheap gas in my town, there isn't a gas station closer than 8 miles. And in this day and age, there is no cheap gas!

Besides that URL is MSN and the site does not list some good size towns in California or Nevada. There are some better Gas Price websites than this one, guys. If it works for you, fine, but it won't work for trips you might be taking.

I wish it were 2.79 a gallon. It is 3.37 there, 3.19 in Tonopah, 3.29 in Austin, and about 2.92 in Reno.

I have too many vehicles to fill. I have too far to drive. Woe is me!

Regards,

Alanco

Gas Guzzling SUVs?

Before you get too comfortable throwing around liberal epithets like "gas guzzling SUV" read the post where a drunk kid in a GrandAm with three passengers slammed in to his "gas guzzling SUV" right in the A pillar and thanks to its body on frame design, its weight and its truck design (a newish GMC Yukon) He and his wife were not hurt. How would you like that to have happened to you riding a motorcycle or driving an econobox?

Just a suggestion. Where I live, we have to haul our trash, shop for 2 weeks at a time, haul appliances, lumber or anything else city people have delivered. So we drive pickups and SUVs and not little cars. And the gas at 8 miles away is $3.34.

Regards,

Alanco

How come they always call my Suburban a "Gas Guzzling SUV" but never say "Gas Guzzling Pickups"? I get as good or better mileage than most full size pickups.........
