Welcome to the site Hobbit. Changing the Air filter isn't the easiest thing you'll ever do but you shouldn't have a problem gettin it done. You'll find some good info on it with diagrams in the Tech Folder.
They had the same idiot engineering that air filter that engineered the bottom fuel filter. Changing that air filter isn't easy. The old 7.3's I could change with bare hands in about 3 minutes. This filter is different.
First unbuckle the 4 clips and go ahead and remove them because if you don't they are liable to fall off and end up trapped in the tanglement of wires and hoses on the engine or more likely fall down into the intake and have to be fished out.
The front is easiest to get loose, wiggle the thing till the plastic tabs underneath come loose. It may take some force.
Now, loosen the air filter, there are 4 studs in bottom and they'll pop out. That again will take force.
Then wiggle it loose from the rear tube.
Then you just got to reverse the process. A long screwdriver or 2 helps.
Oh yeah, its not a typo when you see how much the air filters cost..... If im not mistaken, I saw them at Wallyworld for $60.00... Yes thats Sixty dollars....WTF....
Proceedure referred to by "locked up" is a lot easier than the old "bloody-knuckle" method.
Just a note that to "Disconnect the MAF or IAT sensor." you need to squeeze with a downward thumb pressure while pulling to separate. Also to "Remove the Filter Minder" just turn and pull and it will eventually come out.
Also do first remove the clips and set them aside as said by Skipper.
The filter will last 50,000 miles.... so a few minutes of work and a few cuss words is worth it to me!!! I use only the stock, blue synthetic media air filters and trust them 100%!!!!
Blue media = synthetic fiber media (stock filter) - Made by Donalson
White media = cellulose (paper) media - Made by DOnalson
The synthetic media is moisture/water resistent and will last longer... but it does cost more... but it is what comes with all 6.0L's off the assembly line!!!
