Not sure about the 'stangs, but I've taken one of my ex-gf's over a hundred, no problems.
The Lightnings didn't have a limiter that I know of, but I believe all Ford vehicles not engineered for performance are limited at 97 mph.
I think you will find that with the exception of Police vehicles, the performance vehicles are limited to 125mph, atleast that is what I have seen, not only with Ford but chev and dodge also. I don't know why that speed except almost all vehicles start to get a little unstable around 130 unless specifically designed for it, you should drive a crown vic, or chev caprice at 140+.
Ah, to be young again and want to go fast. Now I'm just happy to get to my cardiologist's office on time. Hard to find a place around here to go even 55 mph.
Eh I'll pass on that offer Monsterbaby. 140 in a Caprice/Crown Vic doesn't strike me as a good time. Just a little bit of turnign the wheel there and you're pretty much dead.
Thats nothin, well, it's something but not nearly as crazy(stupid) as what i did. took a chevelle to 130. never passed that, could have, but i was too afraid for the car, wanted to hit 200. brought it back down and tried to do a burnout, but picked the front end up whilst headed for a turn... never scratched it, it's been sitting ever since.
Alan, the speedometer only goes to a 120 on chevy crap chevelle, so how could you tell you were going a 130, or on your way to 200 for that matter? Is it the good one, 69, or70, what year is it? Didn't they make a chevelle ss with a 454 in like 71 or something? Now that would be an awesome chebby, if there is such a thing hee hee.
It was rebuilt. i bought it from a garage that rebuilds and sells chevys. it's a 1969 ss 454 L4. after it came out of the shop, it had a new cluster(aka new speedometer and a tack), new 4 bolt, twin turbos, and was bored out to a 496. it had a body off restoration. was stripped down, and repainted with the original colors. i dont know what year the 454 came out, but it sits in a 69 so i came out by 69. it is an awsome car,
We had a '72 and it was still out then, as our 'vette had a 454.
What are you going to do with it Alan? Sounds amazing, do you have any pictures? They may not be Chevy fellas but I'm definetely intrigued. If you're lookin' to sell it ya know...lol.
A chevelle is a boat, now if you had a yanko camero with a 454, you'ld have a rocket on rails, of course a chevelle ss with a 454 wouldn't be any slouch by any means. a 69, 70 chevelle ss in decent shape can really bring some big bucks these days, especally the 4-speed cars.
Yeah, the ones in good shape go for a lot. Even the ones that look horrible, but are running, demand a good price. They're American classics, and worth such.
For sure !! those were the days, even the family cars were fast. You could run at the strip on saturday night, and take the family to church the next day, all in the same car.
that's part of the 3 reasons why i dont drive it. gas, damage, and finnally gas. at a whole 12 mpg, it is too expesive. it is a dawg next to a camaro, but i got her for the looks. and because, i wanted to take a girl to a drive-in movie the old fashiond way.she actually went out with me too, lol.
posting pics.i've been trying to post some of both it and the mods to my truck. but every time i do, it locks up my comp. so i have only gotten one pic up so far, and that dont show you much, just that it is a nice lil ford ranger. the car wasn't cheap, but aslong as i dont do anything to it, will sell for more than what i bought it for (if i do sell it). any advice for posting pics? i'ld do a photobucket, but never done it before either. i'm not a computer wiz, i just make water do cool things.
Some of the current manufacturers are optimistic re speed. My daughters '06 Honda Oddesy and '05 Accord both came with speed rated tires and 160 MPH speedos. The minivan is used to haul around their 4 daughters and will rarely see 70.
