You guys are missing his point, it's not that the engine is lmited to 3000rpm, just limited to 3000 rpm in top gear, IE 92mph = 3000rpm in overdrive. There is nothing wrong with the motor, just the factory speed limiter working properly.
oh yea, lol. i guess your right. missed that. yea if it's in o.d. then you shouldnt be able to go any faster than that because the speed governer would kick in and tell the computer not to let any more fuel into the engine. guess you dont have a problem, lol. unless you consider your speed governer a problem.
wait you cant go above 3000 rpm? that not right, i can go to 5500.
ummm I thought you said you had replaced the chip and went 137...It sounds like you are saying you can go to 5500 with the stock chip...why else bring up that you can hit 5500 on a non stock chip??
As A side:
The cpu will limit the engine speed to 3000rpm in park and neutral, and limit the Truck speed to the low 90's on the newer trucks.
ummmm...I will repeat,
The cpu will limit the engine speed to 3000rpm in park and neutral, and limit the Truck speed to the low 90's on the newer trucks.
Just after I installed my air intake, I hit 105 mph with my ranger on a nice flat section of highway a few years ago just to try and see where it would max out at. It was still accelerating, but I got scared and backed off - it was feeling too light on the road - aerodynamics just aren't as good as most cars on the road. I haven't tried it again. I think my ranger would max out at about 110 or 115 - but I'm not going to try it .....
if you want to go fast in your rangers never level them.you'll be like an airplane. also when going fast, it's easier(for me) to control if you put the steering wheel at it's lowest posistion. and dont be jerky. i've watched alot of guys loose thier trucks to jerky moves. remember keep it smooth, thats why i put the steering wheel like that. also, try not to brake in the turns set yourself up before them. else you'll slide right out of them. i did that one. luckly it wasn't in a bad spot and didn't hit/role it.
Been there done that with people hitting the brakes in corners and sliding right off the side. Fun to be a passenger in, definetly wouldn't try it in my truck.
Mine governs out in the vicinity of 95ish, but I can't nail down the actual speed. It was downhill with a tailwind at the time and the truck was fighting me pretty hard.
On a second note, does this hold true for all Fords (out of the factory). I doubt so for Cobra's and other high performance vechiles, but what about a plain-Jane Mustang? Really just curious.
