Have 1993 F-250. I was going to replace the 4x4 indicator switch at the tc but checked the two wire plug coming from the harness. It shows power on both contacts whether I have the 4x4 shifter in 2H or 4H. The 4x4 lights on the dash do not work. I would think I should have power to one side of the plug so when the shifter is engaged it sends back power to the dash light. Also, it's stuck in 4wd. Thanx for any help.
Do you have electronic shift 4wd? Do you have a high indicator lamp and a low indicator lamp?
My diagram shows if you do not have electronic shift, then you do have a high and low indicator lamp. The switch on the transfer case will have two wires, one for high and one for low. The switch grounds one wire to make the high light come on, and grounds the other wire for the low light to come on.
If this sounds like your system, you can ground both wires at the transfer case switch, and both dash lights should come on. If they both work, then the switch is broke or something in the transfer case is broke making the switch not work correctly.
Dear Mr. Franklin2: Thank you for your help. Grounded plug as you said and got lites at dashboard. Pulled indicator switch and plugged connector back in and grounded switch and depressed ball in back of switch. No lites on dash. Hopefully it's the switch. Thanks a bunch! Do you know if switch is available from Pep Boys? I know its not in the computer at Autozone. Thanks again.
Thank you Franklin2. I'm going to the Ford dealer to get it tomorrow. I really appreciate your help and it's nice to know in these times there are people out there like you. Thanks again.
