Lope idle is when the engine high idle's and then shuts down ,then high idles, then shut down very fast. You may have heard a monster truck engine doing it at idle. Ive personally heard it on the Detroits at the big rig pulls on those huge engines. Maybe someone else can explain it better.
Now that i think about it a lope idle on a straight piped psd should sound pretty sweet as the exhuast wheel spools up and then down and then up and so on!
it comes from the long duration and lift on the cams they use. instead of the engine idling smoothly as it does now, you can actually watch the tach jump 100 RPM or so, and the engine rocks the whole truck back and forth. it sounds very lumpy idling. however when you make a pull you will not lift the front left tire two feet off the ground and you will not bellow white smoke at idle.
eric i have a 100 setting and 140 setting, and the only difference i can tell is the amount of smoke it can roll at low boost.
Eric, it will be hard to go above 120 with most of the chips and notice a difference until you get big oil, big fuel, and possibly bigger injectors to deliver and burn all that fuel, and at that point you probably need a bigger tranny as well, but if you have the money, the people here at FTE will give you some great ideas on how to burn it
You know what really got me thinking about this?= bullydogs free 3 day trial PCM flash. And as i was thinking about getting that put in i was like why would i let some small auto-parts store just dump some info into my pcm. So, before i made the mistake with that bullydog free stuff i was like why not call down to dp tuning and talk to the experts.
First things first, DP tuner has an excellent rep here on FTE. Second, BD is not some small fly-by-night operation. So the only concern might be who you purchase the BD from. Aside from that, you are likely on track. If the DP is what you want, from what I've seen you cannot go wrong. DP tuner does not have a monopoly on the chip/tuner business. There are plenty of other trucks running other tunes out there.
You have to understand that most of these guys that are running the DP-Tuner, had at one point and time the "other tunes". For one reason or another they switched and found out that the "other tunes" were lacking. If these guys are right and Jody is as good as they say he is, I for one will be willing to sell my Predator to the "other guys" once my DP-Tuner comes in. I for one did'nt know any better when I bought my Predator, it served its purpose though.
Rampage does have a valid point. I cannot comment on that aspect. All I can say is that I am happy with my TS chip. It performs fine for me though others have had one and gone to a DP, and like it better. Just trying to illustrate the options. It was a balance of what I wanted and what I needed and cost.
