I finally got it done. after coming home from vacation i had loads of parts begging me to put them on. i have to start out by giving credit to Jtharvey for most of the stuff you see here. i used a DieselInnovations kit instead of an ITP kit, solely because their kit used blue hose. you can kind of see a pattern under the hood. used a Dahl150 from Dieselsite, and a carter 4070 lift pump from Jegs. the Dahl enabled me to eliminate the fuel bowl, and im glad i did. you wouldnt believe the amount of extra room you have under the hood, see the pics. i used 30R9 hose throughout. $5 a foot, but it's worth it. barbed nipples and opposite-double-clamps on all connections. i dropped the tank while i was at it, and ran new line to the Carter. figure if i am doing this much, might as well do it right. dropped the downpipe, and while i was at it, i heat wrapped it. 2"x50' could not be any more perfect in terms of length.
after installation: wow, that carter pump is NOISY. you can hear it buzzing like crazy when you turn on the key at first. starting and running the engine dampens some of the noise, but you can still hear a nest of hornets buzzing about under there. i was screwing with the regulator while it was idling, it really smoothened the idle if you dropped pressure to about 20psi, and it made it loud and knocking sounding if you ran the pressure much above 85. set it at 65 for now, i am going to do the boost reference tomorrow. i dont notice much of a sound difference, maybe there is still some air in the system. however on my short test run on 100hp mode, the boost would rise MUCH faster. i guess that extra pressure and flow would fill the injectors better. with (im guessing) 30% throttle input, the boost would rise to about 3 or 4 psi running in 3rd at about 1600 rpm. now it accelerates much faster, i watched the boost climb to around 10-12 psi with maybe less throttle input than before. i had to stop in front of my school to do a smokeout, and to my great surprise, it rolled tons more smoke. max boost still held at 25psi, like before. um dont know what more to say about it. however i did break an EBP sensor trying to get the fuel bowl bolt out that goes through the HPOP reservoir, the passenger side one. looked on ebay for them, saw one for $20. went to the "stealership" and the retail was $120. i have a business account there so it was "only" $87, but still that is one heck of a mistake to make. that could have been a fuel tank of fuel.
anyway here is the gallery. comments welcome. enjoy.
I have been reading and doing alot of searches on all the fuel mods and have a couple of questions. Does anyone know the fittings needed to eliminate the quik connects. Also what pumps and filters did you use and where did you get them and price. I would like to do all the fuel mods at the same time but want to get all the parts together before i start. If anyone could help it would be appreciated. How many ft. of hose did you use or any other advice would be great. Thanks again
yes it does hang down as much as it looks like. i mounted it as high as practically possible with materials i had in the shop, and if you are at the level of the bottom of the doors (a squat in this instance) you can see about 4" of it showing through. if i dont like it, i may fashion some sort of black cover.
DieselInnovations for the fuel system- $449
Dieselsite for the Dahl 150- $175?
Summit for the Y- Block- $50
Jeg's for the Carter4070- $75
Lowes for various fittings, about $40
i used about 15ft of hose- $75.
plus i broke an EBP sensor.- $85 take yours out before trying to remove that one bolt like i tried to he-man.
Have you thought abput grommets and washers for vibration isolation on the fuel pump?? bolt, washer, old style faucet seat, pump, faucet seat in a stack will isolate the pump from anything it touches. need to run a ground wire however.
That is nice Kris! I am curious if you also compared the kit from DieselSite when making your decision? My Dahl 100 hangs down pretty low as well so the 150 must be way down there!!
i never expected to get a reaction like this, but thanks everyone.
piotrsko- yes you cannot see them (obviously) in the pictures, but i did use the rubber grommets included in the kit. it does a great job at isolating the pump. i had to press the 90* mounting bracket flat because it was not going to work like that in my application. i put the pump as close as i could get it to the tank. EDIT- look at picture 10 of the gallery. you can clearly see them.
Lushman- no i never really thought about the dieselsite kit. i was too set on the blue hoses. sometimes it is fit over function in that case. but here i got a awesome looking hose kit that performed even better.
cookie88- i do not know when they stopped using them. i was planning on getting the regulator pictured in their kit, but i was a little taken aback when i saw a fuelab regulator. never heard of it before. however it does the same job.
