I'd say. I was having about 65 above ambient when I am empty on my 01 Ex. I also had the 6.0L Cooler but that didn't do much for highway driving. It was stop and go that it helped the most. Since I have switch to a BTS trans, I am getting about 65 irrespective of what I do. The next week, I will be taking it to MN so I'll know if the 65 above ambient holds true. Before the 6.0 cooler, it was 65 above for unloaded and 100 above for loaded with an 8000# Toy hauler.
well this truck is on the road as we speak going from lubbock to houston and my friend just called me to see if i could find out something. he has had this truck 2 weeks he drove it from houston to lubbock at lubbock he installed, 4" t-back exhaust, edge juice, edge evolution programmer. Before he left houston he had the transmission serviced and had synthetic oil put in. he said everytime he stopped on the highway there was a puddle of tranny fluid. so on the highway running 74 the tranny oil temp is 203.
I just installed my guages a couple weeks ago, and the hottest that my trans temp has been (unloaded, interstate speeds) was just at 170-175, and that was on a 95 degree day.
On a typical 90 degree day I run about 165 with mixed driving(empty). When towing I run 180-200 depending on how many lights I have to stop for. Now that is with the factory tranny cooler. I've heard that the factory tranny cooler gets over-looked in most cases. Being that the cooler can get clogged and/or restricted.
Aero drag force increases with the square of the speed increase, going from 65 mph to 75 mph increases the velocity contribution to the drag force from 9088.4 to 12100 (using ft/sec as the unit for velocity).

203* is not too hot, but the puddle of fluid is abnormal. Sounds like he has a steady leak. Is he refilling the fluid?
BTW - Nobody runs at just 74 mph in W TX. Grandmas run 80 - 85.
Mine runs 165 and 180 pulling a 24' enclosed trailer. I have the stock trans cooler on a 02/psd/cc. That's running about 70 mph with outside temps in the 80's
Hi all mine also seems to run high 200 a little hotter when towing my 5th wheel. I had the trans rebuilt by a trans shop 2k ago also had them install a tru cool 40K.Checked the install yesterday it's behind the a/c condensor.Thought the condensor might be dirty (full of bugs) so i washed it out will take it for a spin today. Thanks, Dan
I've got a tru-cool on mine and I very rarely see anything over 150. Even towing our ~9k travel trailer this summer it didn't push above 150. I'm almost concerned my sensor isn't getting a correct reading.
Running 170-180 in Phoenix between 65-75mph. Running from Phoenix to Iowa Sat night to Monday 154 temps on tranny with 70 75mph. No mods on tranny yet.
I just installed a second Aux cooler this weekend. I see 155-170 normal unloaded driving. With the 4K lb gooseneck (unloaded) I saw 180.
I just read an article stating that 175 is optimal for ATF. For every 20 degrees over 175 it cuts the fluid life in half.
It seems that most every vehicle (truck or car) see's 190-205 on a regular basis. Mostly because the fluid to fluid coolers are marginal at best. The only way to begin solving the "hot" issue is to choose a good Aux cooler. I read the bar and plate was more efficient that the tube and fin.
