I bought this truck used 9 months ago but I looked everywhere in front behind the radiator..etc but never did find anything. I searched past threads which showed different trans coolers and their positions. I looked at the tranny to see maybe something else might be helping out but didn't see anything. Any other thoughts??? Did I miss something?

I was talking about another one not the one that came with it. Can maybe it just keeps the heat down on it's own. I do see the temp rise on stop and go but that is normnal. I was just saying pulling a load down the highway the temp stays a good temp. I'm going to pull again this weekend when temps hit 100
Mine runs about 120 in town and 160-170 hwy speeds pulling 25 ft TT. Also mine leaked fluid in puddles when on a forward slope and I discovered it came out the dip
stick tube joint just up from the trans. Mabey mine was overfilled, but anyway I put black tape on the joint and no more problems. PS, my trans temp sensor is in the bottom of the pan with a tru cool cooler.
I've run into high temps two times. One was related to the cooler by-pass and the other was a restricted cooler. I was running unloaded temps of about 200 and since changing to a6.0 cooler i have yet to see anything over 150 unloaded.
I was pulling a TT in OD this weekend. The temp were in the 90s and BTS trans stayed around 65 above ambient when it was raining and 75-80 above ambient in hot dry weather
I pulled a 10K lb. 5 wheeler through west Texas and New Mexico this past weekend. Ambient temp ran 99-102. Tranny temp with factory cooler and tru-cool ran 170-185. Worst temp on the whole trip was in 55* weather pulling over the contintental divide in Colorado. 7% grade for 9-12 miles and I used low gears to keep speed under control. Temps went way up for very short time and cooled off right away.
Will service tranny this week to counter any degrading of fluid. No problems for the rest of the trip (over 1200 miles) so think I'm okay.
Good info on this thread. I am getting ready to install a B&M transmission temp gauge. It says to install it in the return line. Which one is the return line. I have a 2001 f350 crew cab psd. Thanks

The consensus is to put the sensor in the test port of the trans.
where exaclty is the test port, is it the little allen wrench looking plug on the side of the pan.
I did install the sending unit in the return line. My gauge is from B&M and it says to install it there that way you can tell the effectiveness of the tranny cooler. I will see how it works. By the way what is the thread type on the tranny pan plug, I wonder if my sending unit will screw into it.
