Look at Compustar. I have one in my 04 and it has been the best remote starter I have ever had. I have had 4 differant brands in 7 vehicles and it has operated flawlesly. The have the longest range out on the market, and it starts every time.

I got the Viper 791 in my 05 crew. It's my third viper system. Buy a DEI system you can't go wrong. The 791 I have now has some of the best options. If there is a thounder strom I can turn the glass senser off for the night and still have the system armed. One mile range, two way page It's the way to go. You can find the 791vx system on ebay new for just under two hundred if you plain to do your own install.

easy and install yourself....go with the Ford Powercode system. They are made by Code Alarm. Actually you could get the Code Alarm instead because they are generally cheaper in price and the exact same systems as the Ford ones.

and this website has all of manuals including the installation manual that will help you out a ton: www.gemsen.com/ford

The compustar I have has 1/4 mile range. It's great I flew alot for my job and I could start the truck at the baggage claim at the airport and come out to a warm truck in the winter. They use radio waves in their system which will go thru brick walls in buildings, which most remote starts will not do. I would have to go to a window in a building to start my vehicle with all the other brand remote starts I had. Go on ebay and do a search for compustar. Their top of the line remote will tell you if your vehicle has started or not also. I had a Viper in my wifes Pacifica and have had nothing but problems. It doesn't help that this car has a complex electrical system, but I wish I had put a Compustar in it.

My Ford Powercode remote starter system works just fine from inside buildings and goes at least 500 feet, maybe up to 1000 feet.

How secure are the systems? I.E. What happens when you are at baggage claim and start your truck? Then, it takes you 10/15 whatever minutes to get to your truck. What if someone breaks in in the meantime? Do they get your truck and drive off in it? Or does the system require a key of some sort in order for it to engage into gear?

Reason I'm asking... It wouldn't take a rocket scientist to hack into your system if there is no hard key or something required to drive off in your truck. I could sit in a vehicle down the way at the grocery store with a laptop setup with all the right stuff to break in (wireless/keyless entry) and remote start your vehicle. Then, I walk up, open the door, sit in and drive off.

Just doesn't seem to be worth the money to make my truck all that much easier to steal. Know what I mean?

as soon as you hit the brake pedal, the engine shuts off. So they can't steal your truck. When you get to the truck, you can unlock it and get in, put the key in and turn it on and then press the brake pedal to overvide the system. then you can drive off as normal.

This is why you want to use the Fords PATS bypass kit. Not one of those generic kits that requires you to put an extra PATS key underneath your dash. If a thief finds that, then he could steal your truck.

While this is true, if you put it in a spot that is good enough, and tighten the screws down, that guy would be sitting out there for at least 15 minutes between finding it, opening it up, and driving away. Plus they usually look like relays anyway, so its hard to tell what it is. I have one in mine and ain't worried about it.

I have the Viper 791 XV, with a perimeter sensor, dual zone shock, and remote start.

Word of advice, skip the perimeter sensor unless you're prepared for many false triggers.

The company that installed my Compustar used the Ford PATS key bypass when he installed my system. Also FYI, Code Alarm makes the remote start system for Ford.
