99 250sd, auto trans, when i switch into a gear it slips for a sec then grabs and goes. 134,000 miles, don't know when fluid was changed, shows full when hot. i'll let it cool and check it then. thanks guys.
I just changed trans fluid on my '97 PSD (135,000 miles). Because I bought the truck used, I had no idea when it had last been changed. It now shifts a lot smoother and crisper. Should have done that sooner...
i should say that it hesitates a couple of seconds. does this sound like a common bad fluid thing? i'd hate to go through the whole fluid change just to find out it needs a trans.

Somewhere here there is a thread that deals with this very issue. If you have a tranny on the way south, fresh fluid will finish the transmissions voyage for you in a hurry.
Be sure you rule out your slip joint in the driveshaft. Mine did that and I dropped the driveshaft and greased the slip joint. Problem solved.
?????????????. Slip joint in driveshaft???????????
I'm sorry everyone. Mr trans in town has it and says he might have it done monday night for 1500 to 2000 if no upgrades. please tell me if i'm going in the wrong direction. i would lovr to throw a big beefy trans in there, but with 134000 i'll be happy with another 70 to 100000 miles. dont get me wrong, i love this truck, but rust and many other things might keep it from being a life long truck. i.e large chunks of rust flaking from engine block. you guys are all great, and i wish the 7.3 stayed around because it's the best, but after a water pump, an alternator and now this in three weeks, i hope it can last another 70 to 100000 so i can afford a new one.

For 2 Large you could get a Ford Reman with a 3 yr 36000 mile warranty. Or you could spend maybe 1000 and get the parts to do a rebuild, another grand on a good TC and whatever the cost of rebuilding is.
I think you are going the wrong way. I don't know Mr Trans but I'd get a Ford Reman for that money.
Well if you are going through the trouble to have it rebuilt, at least have them put a transgo reprogramming kit in it. Still make nice shifts and addresses many issues that cause things to burn up. Also find out what parts they are using. Have them put in Red Eagle alto clutches and Kolene steels if possible. I know I wouldn't pay that much for a rebuilt tranny without any mods. Definately go HD and Triple disc converter.

Wouldn't it be easier to go with the BTS VB as opposed to transgo?
Wouldn't it be easier to go with the BTS VB as opposed to transgo?
Yes and no, if he is having the transmission rebuilt then they can install during the rebuild process, which is required. If all he is doing is a generic shift kit then yes the BTS VB would be almost a simple plug and play. Brian uses Transgo products in his rebuilds, figure if both Brian and suncoast use their products in some form or another, they have to be doing something right.
