I just got a few gauge clusters w/ 100 mph speedos in them from a trade & was wondering how rare or common they are & if their worth any reall money. Ive seen new 80 mphs go for $300 but thats only for the speedo it self.
They're not rare by any means. I have one in my 76,77, and 74 parts cab. I think after mid 77 most used the 85MPH speedo, when they switched to the silver background in the instrument cluster instead of black. I actually dont remember ever seeing a 85MPH speedo in a early77 and earlier truck.
Just saw one of those argent clusters with the 85mph, and metric speedometer in a 1983 E-150. The speedometer and guages were black.
Yes I remember when the US was trying to go metric. We had a gas station that sold gas in liters even. Some of the road signs too had Miles and kilometers on them as well.
Is "argent" a silver color? My parts Bronco had a silver color cluster in it, but the speedo was still black I believe. I prefer the looks of the all black clusters.
The US dual marked speedometer has "odd" numbers for ...45-55-65-75-85 MPH on the outside due to the 55 MPH speed limit at the time. I prefer the even number dial face like the unit pictured by Dennis or like the 100MPH units. The old 55 "double nickel" speed limits were a PITA.
Ford calls any dull silver paint or metal color "argent". Somebody probably sued when they found out their bumper was not silver plated...
