Never have used one. Checked into the price of one and the price was fairly steep.

Subford,

Have you ever had a problem with it?

Any complaints about it?

Is there any good info. out there that tells you what voltage values you should have at any given point with KOEO? KOER?

And which points on the breakout box should have continuety?

Or do you just have to figure it out for yourself with wire diagrams and basic knowledge?

No I have had no problem with it.

Your Engine and emission diagnostics manual will guide step by step through just about any problem using the box. The manual will give you all the readings you need.

You might make an overlay showing you what pins are in use for the Truck/Car you have it hook to.

For $400 I'll stick some paper clips in it and check the voltages myself...

MustangGT,

There is alot that you can't do without a breakout box....such as checking for continuety (<-spelling?) of the wiring harness one wire at a time, from one end of the wire to the other to find shorts and openings within the harness.

Well, I suppose you CAN, but you will have to damage the insulation of the wire and it could be very difficult to do depending on what you are working on.

You CAN NOT probe the 60 pin connector without damaging it. The box allows you to probe at the computor...EASILY...without damaging anything.

On top of that, some things arn't so easy to back probe. With the box it's a piece of cake. And the box only takes a few munites to install. You also remove the chance of damaging the electrical plugs for the sensors etc.

As far as the price, alot has changed since 1997. It now costs roughly 700 dollars new depending where you go. If you buy online, it gets cheaper.

I paid 165 dollars for a new one. Thats eBay for you!

For a mechanic that's going to use it often...yeah it makes sense...but it's not for the average guy at home.

I use a paperclip and slide it into the connector and don't damage anything while doing so...just sneak it in next to the wire.
