a couple of days ago me and a few friends were drivin through a creek no more than 2 feet deep. right in the middle of the creek my engine dies on me, no smoke or anything, it just bogged down and died. we tried to roll start it but the back tires just kept lockin up. we pulled the truck back to my friends house and decided to see if it was seized up by turning the crankshaft with a breaker bar. no turn either way. anybody have any ideas? any feedback would be great. Also, does anyone know if a ford 351 would bolt up to my tranny which is a granny 4 spd? i have a 302 in the truck now. im not sure what the actual name of the tranny is.
take the spark plugs out and turn it over...you probably have hydraulic lock...water in the cylinders....put the plugs back in and it will likely start
and check your power steering pump it may sound strange my brother had this happend to his mustang and it lock up the motor pull off the belt and try turning over the motor if you find you dont have hydraulic lock like (buffalobob) sed. good luck
Sounds like he may have more problems than just draining water from the pylinders. I hydro locked mine and bent the #8 rod into something that looks likw a horse shoe.
It still ran, but the crank counterweights struck the bottom of the piston with each stroke resulting in a heavy ticking sound. Hopefully yours didn't sustain damage, but you'll just have to get the water out and hope for the best.
The key thing here is that water cannot be compressed. When water gets sucked into the engine while it's running and the piston comes up to compress the mixture there is so much force involved that it bends the rods or breaks something else. Typically, a good dose of water is death to an engine.
