HID conversion ???
I was actually thinking about doing the same thing. Check around on ebay and few other places online, you should find some kits to do the total conversion. But remember, you always get what you pay for.
i did it to my X. easy plug and play. beam pattern is factory. and the difference is absolutely amazing. i have a brand called CATZ, the kit was about $650. so the expression, "you get what you pay for" is true. i got a great quality kit and no troubles. MATT M. and i have met once and he saw them. anyway, i cant find them anywhere on the net now. nor does a kit for the 9008 bulbs exist, (that i am aware of). DO THE CONVERSION. WELL WORTH THE MONEY SPENT. DONT LET ANYONE ELSE TELL YOU DIFFERENT UNLESS THEY HAD THEM THEMSELVES. IN THAT CASE, THEY WOULD TELL YOU TO GET THEM..
If you want to blind everyone on the road get a drop in kit, if you want to do it right your going to have to do something custom because nobody makes a quality projector headlight for our trucks. I already have a problem with blinding people with my factory lights and I have a 2wd. I couldn't imagine putting in a bulb that emits 4x the light into a prehistoric light housing design that was designed for bulbs with 1/4 the light output and expect it to handle it. You might be able to see, but you could just be seeing the person your blinding that can't see the road coming right for you. Call me an extremist... but I'm a believer in what goes around comes around...

yea, i agree. many put those blue headlight bulbs in and they are annoying. The factory HID's i see make great light but do not blind you. It's not quite the same..but i have an HID bicycle headlight and it mostly just blinds people more than it gives me additional light. It does get more attention though. My halogen makes the same light but is better focused and does not blind people.
Once you go true HID, there is no going back. Since the feds closed down all the HID vendors because of the blinding as stated above, you have to make your own if you want them. Most aftermarket site sell ballasts, bulbs, and connectors separately.
like i stated above, unless you either have them, or have seen them up close, you just don't have a clue. yes they are much brighter concentration of light, but, the beam pattern is same as factory headlight beam. any headlight will blind you if they are not aimed correctly. even then, ex: say you, with your halogens, another with HID's, are heading towards each other and meet at the crest of a hill, you will be pointing both of you vehicles lights at each others eyes. EITHER YOU PEOPLE JUST DON'T HAVE A CLUE ABOUT THESE PRODUCTS, OR YOU HAVE NO CLOSE UP EXPIERIENCE WITH THESE KITS. STOP BEING SO CLOSEMINDED ABOUT PRODUCTS YOU HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE ABOUT.---------OPEN YOUR EYES-------oh, just changing to blue headlight bulbs really sucks and is a cheap way to look like you have the real deal. P.S I DONT MEAN TO SOUND ANGRY, JUST STATING ACTUAL EXPIERIENCE WITH THIS SITUATION.

I'm not wanting the "BLUE" light fad. I'm interested in the 4500K white light. Thanks for all the points pro's and con's. I'm still in the decision process on this. I have to do something because the factory set up is barely addiquate at best.
Since our Xs have only one dual filiment bulb, you will loose your high beam when going to HID unless you can get a bi-xenon set up that pivots the bulb up and down to change the beam angle and distance. Also find out how to make the fogs go on with your high beams which really helps fill in dark spots right below the main beam pattern. 9005s high beam halogens really do a good job in our foglight housings.
I have a pair of PIAA 550s which have an H-4 bulb and on low beam they really fill in the bare spots with an intense light and I have them aimed low so as not to offend other drivers. High beam is for when there is no one ahead of me. I have two more lights coming from Pro Comp for the front, so I will have HID money in the project without HID problems.
I have an HID kit for my Suburban and went back to the Silverstars. The aim of the HID capsule was not correct so it was bright for me, blinding for others. I try to be considerate of others on the road.

BRIAN, i do not like the blue lights either. i have the 4500k kit from a brand called CATZ. cant find them anymore. they are called super white. that is the closest you can get to daylight. no HID kit has a dual filament because there is no filiments inside the bulb. where i get my high beam is that the kit came with a high beam controller. what that does is when you put the highs on, it changes the voltage to the ballast and that changes the position of the arc inside the bulb. when that happens, it changes the reflective pattern in the light housings. the light output is the same but the pattern is aimed up a little higher. hense, high beams.
HELLO, there is no such thing as a housing that moves the bulb up and down to give you a high beam. lexus has the lights that pivot but that is not a high beam. on my X, when i push the high beam forward, the highs come on, fogs go off. when i pull back to the normal position, highs stay on, fogs come on. when i want the lows and fogs back on after that, all i do is pull on the stick for the flash, and all goes back to normal.
oh, and no other lights on the truck do ruin the look or have an external light bar. no drilling holes in the truck too.

thanks again for the info .... I did find a place that has the CATZ units ...
CATZ
they offer a Bi-Xenon HID kit here is a quote from the description...
The technology is a moveable scoop that surrounds the HID capsule and changes the optics in the headlight housing causing light to be cast as if they were high beams.
sounds like it does have a moving part on the bulb but not the housing.

Racer,
Brian was complaining about "pathetic" light, and with the issues surrounding HID lights he needs to know other options are available.
You may not like light bars or adding on lights, but my KC light bar holds four lights and attaches to the bumper bolts. No drilling and not a huge tube. Four monster lights on the front of a Super Duty is a look I like. He might too. Also he could try a wiring kit for the headlights to boost the output. That passes your "no drilling" and "stock appearance" test.
He is just looking for feedback. Which is what we are providing.

i've read some post in the past about melting wires and low light from the headlights? My normal bulbs are as bright as anything on the road..save hid i guess but its a different kind of light. If everyone elses who complains about not enough light shine like mine....then i do not get it. Where are you driving ? I've done cross country trips on very dark roads and never wished for more light. just my opinion( although i am **** about keeping my windshield clean..inside and out)
