I'm confused as to what tires to get to replace the original tires.
I have 50k miles on the original tires, BF Goodrich Rugged Trail T/A, found them at Costco for $152+ tax mounted, balanced and installed.
They also have BF Good rich All Terrain for $176+ tax mounted, balanced and installed.
What is the difference between these two tires, the guy that I spoke to at
Costco, had no idea.
I'm leaning towards getting the same tires because of how long they lasted, and still have quite of bit of tread left.
Check to be sure they're quoting you Load Range 'E' Tires! That price sounds right for them, but make sure!! Don't let them talk you down to a 'D' Range. Makes it a little squirrely when pulling anything.

Thanks for the advise, if anything I'd want to go up. I do quite a bit of towing and hauling as well.

Can't go up from an E unless you want to step up to 19.5" rims and go commercial. If you put on the miles and want the LONG wear of those commercial, look at the American Force Wheels. I have a friend with them and he loves them. He's got about 75 or 80,000 on them and you can barely tell. I don't know what he expects out of them, but I'd guess at least 150 to 200,000 miles in wear. Of course, he never goes off road and he babies it pretty good. He does pull 15-18,000 quite often though.
I would go with the BFG All Terrain TA. The Rugged Trail TA is a cheaper tire sold to price concious people like Ford Motor Co and Cotsco and Wal Mart. The All Terrain TA is the better tire. I've ran a lot of All Terrain TA's in my life and averaged 80,000 per set out of them. They are a darn good running tire. Currently I've got a client who is a Bridgestone dealer and I sure wish he'd get BFG too. Most tire companies make a 2nd rate tire that they market at places like Wal Mart and Ford Motor Co. Kinda like the John Deeres Lowes and Home Depot sells. They may be green but they aren't Deeres.
...Another vote for the BFG AT's. Hands down, the best tire I've ever owned. Drive great, wear great (80K not unheard of, even on a superduty), good in rain, snow, gravel, mud......just a GREAT all around tire.

I vote for those too. Mine came with BFG's. I dought I'll ever see 80,000 on any tire I install though. The BFG's are good for Drag Strips too! Maybe that's why I don't get the mileage though. Hahahahaha
another vote for BFG AT's .. i have 35's on mine and they run GREAT .. the truck had Mud Terrains on it when i got it ... loud and rough ... i've also run Nitto's and they're a LOT louder .. all I will run is BFG AT's
Another one for All Terrain Ta's. great price on them too. I was quoted $185.00 ea out the door for 285-75R16's Load range E here in Houston and ended up gettin them for $160 after haggeling. Are you sure the TA's were less than the AT's? I found the TA's here were more than the AT's.
Bridgestone are same manufacture as Firestone I had as set of Firestone on my 97 PSD Dulley we put 65000 miles on them they were raceing slicks when we replaced them they were good set of tires.
