Lightbulb WW- thoughts & experiences

While installing the WW this weekend I noticed some of the differences between the stock and the new WW.... besides that the vanes are staggered in height.

The WW has 10 vanes that have a higher degree of inclination than the stock wheel.

The Stock has 9 vanes and a lesser degree of inclination.

It seems to me that this would cause the WW to spool faster and not make as much boost.

I know that it is not supposed to make as much boost.

I haven't driven it enough to have noticed if it spools faster.

I did notice there is a different sound in my exhaust and alot more whistle when I jump into it.

I used to be able to through an overboost code, but not with this wheel.
I don't think I have a leak, bc I still hear the WHOOOOSH shifting into OD.

With the old wheel I could through a code @ 3300 rpm and it turbo would flutter/surge when coming down on the rpm. Now none of that. Just solid power and some whoooshing.

Any one know the science behind the design change? Are the changes I have seen in my truck typical? Did the WW effect EGT's for anyone?

Thoughts, ideas, comments, experiences.

Pretty much all that you described above is all that it is good for. You will lose a neglegable amount of boost, you will lose the stalling, you will hear more from the compressor.

In my personal opinion, the stock wheel is just fine. If you are looking for more sound from the compressor AND exducer, you need to upgrade the turbo. This will also develop more power, but additional modifications are recommended.

The great thing about our specific model, or type of turbo is that you can purchase different compressors and turbines to make a nice hybrid.

The WW was replaced with a quieter wheel and the pcm programing changed to reflect the increased boost of the stock wheel(more wastegate control to prevent stall). Here we are undoing things Ford changed to create more appeal??!!??

Is your wastegate hooked up? I plan to do the WW upgrade too but if I'll lose boost over it I might think twice. I thought the more aggressive blade angles would actually build more boost.

I have an aftermarket wastegate controller and a larger exhaust housing. Installing the WW and tightening your actuator rod will net you more boost and help prevent surge/stall.
