I bought one and put it in more for not having to keep buying paper filters and just on a romp around the block I noticed a more steady pull in the higher RPM's.
I have 2006 XLT Supercrew 4X2 4.6L. I have 2,100 miles and 1st tank was 14.45 all metro driving in dallas. Is now 15.4 average for metro driving. On 2 highway trips I have averaged 17.6 and 17.7. Like most people have said I try to keep the tach at or below 2000.
I have another question tho, I have run the tank well past the time the low fuel light comes on (65-70) miles and still have not been able to get more than 26 gallons in the tank. Window Sticker says 30 gallon Fuel tank. Do these things really hold 30 gallons and is there really a 100+ mile reserve after that light comes on?
I would probably say its reserve, it averages about 4-5 gallons left when your fuel light comes on. I know other car makers that do that.
With my truck 04 F150 supercab, flareside, FX4, 3.73 gears, 2.5"lift, 325/60/18's, Edge Evo lvl2, custom exhaust. And a combo of city/highway and pulling trailers 5-6 times a month(6,000-14,000lbs) I have averaged 15mpg. On a highway trip i have gotten as high as 17.1mpg and as low as 12.4mpg when I was pulling trailers 50% of the tank. And I don't baby it either, taking off from stop lights the tranny usually shifts around 3300-3700rpms.
I have noticed that if I fuel up at certain stations my mileage suffers alot. With one certain brand in the tank I will only get 12.5-12.8. Fill up and run a tank of gas from station A(the good one) and average 15mpg, then goto station B (since I was close to it) and then I will only average 12.5ish. I have tried this a few times just to see if it was my driving, but it wasn't. Some people say that brand of fuel doesn't matter, but I say that it does. Since my work truck also runs like &#%@ and gets horrible mileage on gas from "station B".
2006 F150 FX4 5.4L stock. First tank 14.1 mpg, second tank 14.9 mpg mixed. I try to keep rpms under 2k and I am generally easy on the pedal. I've been told that the mileage will improve. So far the mileage is what I expected. I didn't buy this heavy truck for good mileage...bought it for its towing power, solidness, driving pleasure, and let's face it, there isn't a hotter looking truck out there.

I Think the Low Fuel light comes on at about 23 gallons...or at least that is what is does in my truck (27 gal tank). Best way to find out for sure is to run it dry. Go get yourself a fuel can ...fill it up of course and go for a cruise...when the low fuel light comes on set your cruise at a steady speed and then run it til it runs out. This will give you the most accurate Range I would think.
