2004 F-150 here Supercrew, 5.4L engine, 17k miles. I've been looking at 11.5 MPG since new. Love the truck but the mileage could force me into a 2007 Chevy Avalanche. Anyone else in a similar situation with mileage?

I have a 06 SuperCrew and I am getting around 11mpg, I figure its because its not broken in yet ~600miles. I keep the RPMS at or below 2k when driving
Would a K&N Drop in filter, give me 1-2?
With mostly city driving and a little highway my 04 5.4l scab is getting 11.4 to 11.8 mpg. Add that to the constant vibrations, brakes and other issues that the truck has, along with the horrible ford customer service, I just can't justify keeping this pig. Once its paid off its getting traded in.
Same thing here 10-12 around town and 15 on the highway.
I've looked at other trucks and the differential in price along with depreciation, what I owe on my truck ,~16k, well it makes no economic sense for me to trade. I can buy a bunch of gas for the differential. Now if I was going to live another 67 years the numbers would work. If you have done any serious mods to your truck including rims and tires..you are well and truly screwed...no return on that stuff. In fact some of it works against you.
I have an 04 SCAB 4x4 with 3:73s. Making short trips in town etc gets 13 stock or with Superchips. It has gotten 17mph averaging almost 80 on the freeway. I do not believe the weight difference between a scab and a screw would cause that great a mileage difference. It might be worth the $$ to buy a tuner such as an Edge or Superchips. Most people who have them do end up with slightly better mileage.

I can say NO. I put one in mine and it made no difference. If you go with a cold air kit it might as then you would use the larger cone type filter. I put the drop in K&N cone type filter in my old 2002 Expedtion and i got 3 mpg better out of it. I was hoping for close to the same results on the new truck. The the flat box filters just dont allow the same air flow.
My '06 S'Crew has less then 1100 miles on it and I have been averaging 15.5 - 16 mpg driving 46 miles round trip everyday in stop and go traffic - I don't step on it from lights and rarely does traffic allow speeds over 50... I have been pleased with mileage so far.
I don't have what some call the "lie-o-meter" on my XLT, so my figures are all hand calculated.
The truck in my sig (2WD, 9,000 miles) turns a tick under 2,000 RPM (~1,950) at 70 MPH. I have tried to keep it there when on the highway as the key seems to be 2,000 RPM or less for mileage.
I have seen (again hand calculated) a little over 20 MPG on a couple of highway trips with little A/C usage and speeds from 60 to 70 mph.
A couple of weeks ago, I took an extended trip to Houston, 70 mph and A/C on most if not all the time. The mileage calculated to 18.75 MPG.
There are no mods on the truck and I don't romp on it much. Around town I get 14 to 17 depending.

I just test drove a 2005 King Ranch with 17,797 miles, the steering wheel didn't vibrate but it seemed like there something making the dashboard panel vibrate. The noise was driving me crazy, I told the sales rep this needs to get fixed. Also, there was a noise from the rear window when going over rough terrain.

My post keeps disappearing?
The airfilter in my truck is not the flat one, it is the more coneline like one.
I have a 2006 Lariat S-CAB and It has about 700 miles on it. So far in the city, I get around 14. I put my edge on and it jumped up to 15. I hope it gets better as it breaks in. Maybee i might get something with an intake and exhaust. Im on my way to 16mpg.
I have 1400 miles on my 3 week old screw 2wd, city and a little bit of hwy combo 14.5 mpg. Most of the time it's running below 2k rpm...If I can get 14-15 average mpg, I'll save $200.00 a month compared to my 4wd F-250 V-10 that I traded in. (10 mpg average)
11.5 mpg sounds too low for these trucks. If you're not getting at least 13 mpg I would have it looked at.
I have 2006 XLT Supercrew 4X2 4.6L. I have 2,100 miles and 1st tank was 14.45 all metro driving in dallas. Is now 15.4 average for metro driving. On 2 highway trips I have averaged 17.6 and 17.7. Like most people have said I try to keep the tach at or below 2000.
I have another question tho, I have run the tank well past the time the low fuel light comes on (65-70) miles and still have not been able to get more than 26 gallons in the tank. Window Sticker says 30 gallon Fuel tank. Do these things really hold 30 gallons and is there really a 100+ mile reserve after that light comes on?
