Guys,
My F150 S'Crew is three weeks old and before I take it into the dealer to have the AC checked out I wanted to see what you guys experience... The AC in my new truck doesn't feel as cold as my 92 (which has been converted to 134 but i haven't used a gauge on it yet)... so I bought a temp gauge to check the air temp at the vents... with the outside temp hovering in the 95-100 range everyday I am seeing 50 degrees when sitting in traffic and a best of 46-47 at speed is this typical? This morning at 4:30 the outside temp was 71 and the best temp at the vent was 45-46... I would expect low 40's?
Any input would be greatly appreciated before a trip to the service department!
I haven't measured mine, but I would say it is warmer than I expect. I just converted our 91 jeep to 134a, and it is pulling 42 goin down the road. and feels a lot colder then the new truck.
I think the Svc Manual specs the "Max A/C" at blower level-2 should be 40 degrees. Also I remember quite a lenghty thread on a very similar topic quite a few months back. You may want to run a forum search. Good Luck!
My 06 Lariat does't exactly freeze the skin off a chicken either. My Lexus blows a good 5-10 degrees colder and the cold air is nearly instant after turning it on. My truck needs a few minutes before the air cools off enough to take it off the max setting. I think someone told me that most domestic car makers bid out the AC and the stereo year to year so there is little quality control. But I can't validate that info.
Your normal, If you can get 40 degrees below outside temp your ok, the new scroll type compressors just don't seem to pump as good at idle, but are more efficient and have less drag
My 06 screw was the same, blowing somewhat cool not cold. Took it to dealer service man said it was normal, iTOLD HIM THAT ALL my other Fords(99 superduty,02taurus) were blowing colder than this high $ Lariat. I finally told him I wanted his AC tech to put the gauges on it and shure enough the ac tech said it was a couple of ounces low according to the specs of the truck. He discharged and recharged and checked for leaks for a total of 4 hrs. No leaks so ac man figured it came low charged from factory. Man now it blows colddddd.
Krane, I would have it checked again in a few months, you probably have a leak. The charge is weighed in so I doubt they screwed that up from the factory. Flexibe hoses and mechanical fittings are the toughest to keep from having an eventual slow leak. Does anyone know what the pressures should be on these trucks? Anyone have a charging chart?
My 04 screw A/C was great. It used to freez me oput of the cab. It began to not work well. I took it to the dealer and they replaced the compressor. It now takes longer to cool and only gets to 50 when its 100 outside. Im about to take it back and have them look at it again.
I just checked my A/C again. Outside temp according to the thermometer in the dash is 97 the A/C blows 50 at full blast and 40 one click under full blast. one thing I have noticed is that I don't here the compressor switch turning on and off all the time like it used to. Do you guys think this is acceptable or should it run cooler?
OK that tears it! I'm taking my truck back to the dealer. I live in the desert where it get over 100 every day in the summer. If NOTFASTENOUGH can get 23 degrees to come out of his vents then I would like at least 40 degrees when the fan is on full.
