This is from the Ford spec sheets for the frame of the 04 model years
Maximum Side Box Section
Excursion--------------------------F250/350
7.27 x 2.82 x .201----------------6.87 x 2.36 x .224 (.226 05 model)
Section Modulus
Excursion--------------------------F250/350
4.16---------------------------------5.6 - - - (6.7 05 model)
No, they are not the same frame . The Pickup has a higher section modulus indicating a greater twist resistance. The Excursion has a lower modulus but has a taller web and wider flanges.
Measurements are taken just aft of the drivers door in both vehicles.
You can make your own stress analysis, but these figures they give us are for only a single section through the frame. you need cross sectional data for the entire frame to make a comparison.
I have a idea hat the frames are the same in the front, since that is where the greatest amount of SD parts are hung on, but diverge into a different size and position aft of the drivers feet.
