I'm in the house and I hear a loud bang out front, then I see the neighbor coming to my door. He backed his Volkwagen into the front of the old '72 which was parked in front on the street. He hit is so hard it move the truck back about 4 feet. It pretty will totaled the back of the Volks.
It looked pretty bad at first but all that got smashed was the bumper, the grill, and the radiator. None of the sheet metal like the fenders, the hood, the think that is behind the bumper got touched. I can't open the hood right now so I don't know if the rad support got bent.
Question: I need to get a new grill so would it be wrong to put an earlier style grill like a 68 or 69 on a '72? Would an early grill bolt on? Would it lower the value of my truck?
Fordxxx- Sorry to hear about your truck. How drunk was your neighbor to hit a parked vehicle that hard?
Unless your truck is all-original and you really want to keep it that way, I don't see it making any difference in the truck's value. There are other years that will swap grills with yours. I don't know exactly which, but a quick search through the forums should tell you. Good luck with the repairs (and the neighbors).
The guy had just got out of the hospital after being hit by a train so I guess his luck is not that good either. He said his foot got caught between the floor and the gas pedal.
Any grille from 67-69 will fit if everything is changed, including headlight doors, parking lights, and the stone shield behind the bumper. The 70-72 fits intact, except that the shell is slightly deeper on the 71-72 and will accommodate inserts from only those 2 years.
Thanks Limegold, I wouldn't have thought of the stone shield behind the bumper. I looked in my Dennis Carpenter catalogue and only saw the 70 to 72 type grills...does anyone know if I can buy a new early grill?
The stone shield/valance isn't all that different over the years, except that the 70-72 is designed for the parking lights to attach.
I'm not aware of anyone reproducing the older style grille. I understand that used ones tend to be expensive. They are either aluminum or painted steel.
when my brother-in-law wrecked my 72..i had to replaced the radiator support, grille, bumper, stone shield and parking lights,i got it all from a 70 in the junkyard for $150 but i had to pull it.i'm sure there is someone out there that has what you need.i looked for almost 6 months b4 i found mine
