Interesting info on what is starting to become common with sellers on E-Bay,
It looks like the feedback system is failing to do what it was intended to do...
By bidding, you are agreeing to all the conditions of sale. Do not bid on this item unless you are prepared to pay with a VISA or MASTERCARD. I ship and sell to USA buyers only. It is the responsibility of the buyer contact me at 316-838-3399 within 48 hours of the close of the sale. I am a business (Classic and Vintage Motorcycles) and the only form of payment I will accept is VISA or MASTERCARD. If you are not willing to pay with a VISA or MASTERCARD, please do not bid. The item will be sent via US mail for 7.00. It will be sent as you see it after you call me at (316)838-3399 with your credit card number. If I do not recieve payment within 48 hours, I will leave negative feedback. The buyer AGREES to leave me feedback upon the reciept of the item. In that way, I will know the item was received and that you are happy. At that time, I will leave you feedback. If I do not receive feedback, you will be added to my blocked bidder list. The item is being sold in "as is" condition, with no guarantee. If you cannot abide by these conditions of sale, PLEASE DO NOT BID
The feedback system is messed up used to the seller would leave feedback first buyer last. now it has reversed
It should be set up so neither party knows what has been left by the other till both have left feedback.
That little green icon is cute....but if it is intended to show who "I" am....he is wrong with the IP. He is wrong with the ISP domain. And he is wrong with IE6. I am using Opera with a frognet dialup account.
The feedback system is now being used for people being petty and trying to get back at other people for either this or that. Just further reflects the sad state the world is becoming.
It's worked for me so far but I've seen cases where it didn't hold up....although your example is the first I've seen where the seller actually demands feedback up front. I wouldn't bid on his auctions with terms like that.
I think eBay in general is heading downhill though. There aren't many bargains left and you can't be sure, when you find one, if it's legit. I still browse it a lot but I don't buy or sell nearly as much as I used to.
I am not a big seller on ebay, or a big buyer for that matter. As a buyer, in the last two years I do not think but maybe one or two people have left feedback for me after I paid for something. They hold it hostage until they see what you are going to leave them. If you don't initiate it, feedback would never be left. Sometimes I do it, sometimes I leave nothing and no one ever gets anything from it.
On the other hand, the few things I have sold, I have always left positive feedback when the payment is received. But I have also not left negative for a couple of non-paying bidders that deserved it. Because I knew they would simply return the favor. And that was wrong on my part. Other sellers, and buyers, should know their history.
Yeah, it's flawed. But I guess it is still somewhat useful. If you have a seller with 100+ feedbacks and less than 1% negative, chances are you are not going to get screwed. And if I didn't see that, chances are I would never bid on anything. I think it's slowly going downhill. I think a lot of feedback never gets posted. I also think a lot of people in the ebay community now should not even be there. But what are you gonna do?
I tried 3 times to get a cutting torch on ebay, first time, they never shipped it, never responded, had a less than perfect score. I got my refund from paypal, and looked for the next chance. This time, it took over a month to get the refund, as the seller wouldn't respond to anyone, including paypal. They had a 100% rating... third time, I got it, the seller had not responded at first, so I feared it was going the same way. I finally got a response, and they got it shipped, and I now have a torch that I was needing for my dad to use. I left positive feedback, he hasn't left any. When I have sold, I wait to be sure they are happy, and give me a chance to do anything about it. Unfortunately, negative feedback seems easy for some to leave, I usually will go nuetral unless they really screwed up, or misrepresented. Had one seller claiming factory service manuals, ended up being a Chilton's manual... I was not a hppy camper. His excuse was that it was factory, not manufaturer's... he was upset at the negative he got on that, but I wasn't the only one that thought that way either, he ended up being banned, as he would not change his ways...
The seller needs to leave feedback as soon as they are paid. No ifs, ands or buts. There seems to be an attitude of holding feedback hostage until you get a positive from the other party so you can be in a position to retaliate should you get dinged by the buyer. My position is that if you accurately and truthfully represented the item, carefully packaged the item and shipped the item in a resonable amount of time there is a VERY small chance you're going to get a negative. If someone leaves you a negative for a BS reason (something didn't work the way someone expected, griping about shipping costs after the fact, brain dead buyer, etc.) then there are avenues to have the feedback withdrawn.
For the record I have ALWAYS left feedback after payment has been received and has cleared my bank account successfully.

That's Ray's sig, it isn't directed at you.
When I first saw it,I thought it was directed at me.
Although that is close to my IP number it isn't
Shaw.ca is a Canadian Cable Television/Broadband Internet company so it won't apply to any American.
I think that it's abused in a way but that's me.
I won't leave feedback until I receive whatever it is I have purchased. I bought a starter for a motorcycle off ebay that was supposed to work great according to the seller. I received it in short amount of time but the starter did not work great as he stated.
I left nuetral feedback....he shipped quick but the part did not work according to his advertisement.

Yeah except for me it says iowatelecom not Shaw.ca, so it has some of it right anyway for each person, haven't checked what my IP number actually is so can't tell but it has the rest right.
I will admit I do the same. Some buyers think it's the sellers responsiblity to make sure the package is delivered and shipping damage free..
I sell stuff with USPS and UPS shipping. For USPS, if you don't buy the optional insurance and USPS losses the package some buyers will leave negative feedback. All because they did not want to pay and extra buck for insurance.
The system is broken and eBay will do nothing to fix it
There's nothing perfect about ebay, but it's not totally imperfect either. For the most part, we hear about only the negative things that happen. I'd estimate, and probably safely, that 99% of the stuff sold on ebay and the feedback, is handled honestly.
This negativity is common. If something happens to us, we take it personally and feel invaded, raped or whatever. I've never seen a thread praising all the good luck someone has had on ebay, but let one thing go bad and it's the worst system of the world of free trade. As is ANY place where someone suddenly has bad luck or runs into an idiot or corrupt seller.
As for the sig... it hit my IP addy and everything else, correctly. The name of the company is just a tad off though.....hmmmm... I'll have to go look at one of my bills. I may have to stand corrected ... and that would please a couple of fellers in the members only forum...lol... where I've given them a hard time over their politics and religion threads.
I might have to go get one of them sign things and post it on my sig in another forum that I moderate on.
WEll, to back you up there Dick, I have generally had good experiences on ebay, it just seems lately, things have gone a bit sour, but maybe it's just a run of bad luck for the moment. I'll still continue to deal on ebay, as it is one of the better sources for many things at a lesser price. I can't begin to say how much money I have saved by using ebay over what it would have cost through conventional channels...
