I do file nonpaying bidder
If I am selling, I want to know that you are satisfied 1st. If I buy, I pay that day.
I have noticed that many car/bike dealers are terse with their listings. Maybe they are tired of trolls - just guessing.
It seems pretty easy to stay with postive as long as you list or picture all defects/marks & respond to emails fast. Same day or next day shipping helps too.
There is something new that has now occured 2x with buyers. I have received positive feedback before they even paid. Neither one has responded on this yet (they both have good feedback).
A: Never trust anyone with zero or low feedback.
FLAW: Everyone should have an even playing field when they enter the game. In real life, does anyone refuse to sell to you just because it is the first time you have walked into their store?
B. Never trust a seller unless his feedback is 100% or very close to it.
FLAW: This negates what we already know; that people, for one reason or another, do not always leave fair & accurate feedback. This especially hurts new sellers, because one neg is going to make them look REAL bad.
Then there are all the other flaws & abuses we are talking about here.
Be aware that ebay is no place for the naive...on any given day there are new scams unfolding (go to COMMUNITY, then DISCUSSION BOARDS, then TRUST & SAFETY (SAFE HARBOR) to keep abreast of the latest rip-offs).
Another scary thing is that when you do get scammed, ripped off, etc.: try counting on ebay to swiftly intervene...ha, that's a laugh!
Company I work for sells a lot on ebay, but mostly as a "Buy It Now" feature. The feedback system in this area is pretty much worthless as it's only going to tell the buyer that we ship what you bought in a timely manner. I get about 50-65% Feedback back from my buyers...BUT - I have a lot of repeat buyers and most all my buyers are medical professionals. As such, we don't really deal with the "general public" and we are very happy with this arrangement.
We always give positive feedback when we receive payment (what else ya gonna do? - It's Buy It Now") Our feedback to them can only help them (our customer) in other sales areas of ebay.
We get payment about 85 % of the time via Paypal...the other 15% vis credit card, so either way we're paid and we guarantee our product with a money back guarantee...have never had to use it!
So, I can only base my answer to the poll by my outrside of work experance with ebay...it still works, but is now abused.
Okay, I see that icon thing from ********.com
people are talking about.
I guess it is a FTE sponsored thing as FTE knows alot more
about me then just my ISP and I don't care if anyone or
everyone knows where I have been
> The seller needs to leave feedback as soon as they are paid.
> No ifs, ands or buts.
Why? It is not a positive experience for me if I have to put up with
someone holding the feedback as a hammer over my head, so I agree with
their newly developed terms, after the sale. When I have clearly sold
something "as is" and then when there is a problem with it, the buyer
can then decide to modify the terms of the "as is" sale into
"with warranty" by using the feedback as black mail?
Besides, I use to leave feedback right away, all that happened was
buyers never left any for me.
I can assume you don't belive the Seller is responsible for getting the package to the buyer free of damage.
Feedback should be left by each party after the transaction is complete
That's what shipping insurance is for. Besides, I still don't see how that releives the seller from leaving feedback as soon as they are paid by the buyer. In my eyes, the buyer has held up their end of the deal. The only reason why one would withhold feedback at that point is to use it as a barganing chip should the buyer wish to say something bad about the seller. That kind of defeats the whole purpose for the feedback system, don't you think?
Ive had it happen to me, Sold s snowboard, I left FB immediatly It arrived very damaged, After explaining to the seller that they opted out of the optional insureance I offered, They fired off A neg.
But if you're sending the parcel and purchasing so-called insurance with UPS, that's a farce right from the start.
So then what ?
Especially if the buyer was given the options of which way to ship the parcel and it got severly damaged and UPS says screw you.( both of you)
UPS has insurance as part of their service, whereas USPS it is additional cost, (very small cost..) and if the buyer opts to not have it, then they should stand the consequences of their decision. As sellers, we have no control over how it is handled in transit. I have had to use the insurance claims before and it went satisfactorily, buyer was happy because they got their money back. I had that package padded beyond belief, and they still broke it... the buyer was quite happy with the packaging, and were content with how it was handled.
ok.... Here's the scenerio.
I recieved a package today that I ordered on Ebay.
It was supposed to be a manifold part for a boat. What I recieved was a set of porthole covers. THe seller has 100 % positive feedback, a rating of 400+, and has been selling since '01. They left me positive feedback as soon as I paid.
This is probably going to mean that my boat is out of service for another two weeks. We have vacation time scheduled, and were planning on using the boat.
Shipping mistakes happen, had it happen recently that I got the wrong lockout hub, but they sent the right one, and paid for the return shipping on the wrong set. See what they will do first.

Would you leave negative?
It would depend on how the seller resolved the situation. If they told you you're SOL, then my very next action would be to leave them a negative. If it is an honest mistake and they offer to pay return shipping and get you the correct item ASAP, then I'd still leave them a positive. While it is a minor inconvienence in the grand scheme of things, if they pull through and do the right thing then an honest seller needs to be recognized given all the sleaze out there these days.

You just dealt with one of the brain dead individuals I spoke of. Not much can be done about someone like that except to petition eBay to remove the feedback. I don't see how it would have made much of a difference if you had held off leaving feedback for the other guy...he probably would have still left the negative (being brain dead and all) and it would have just have turned into another eBay pissing match.
> Not much can be done about someone like that except to petition eBay

E-Bay has tens of millions of sales. It is automated. They could care less about the feedback system as it is suppose to be user supported and driven. They do not have the time or interest to get involved with being a feedback referee.
Let us assume only 20 million sales with 0.005 (one half of one percent) requiring a feedback referee. That is 100,000 feedback issues to referee. What kind of staff would be needed for that? A huge one and suppose you want to hire a staff to do it? With health care and everything else, each employee today is worth $75,000 a year at least. Figure out the cost involved.
Really, E-Bay does not want and will not do anything about people leaving negative feedback to each other and wanting to remove incorrect ones. Been there, done that.
One thing to do expecially with guys with less than say 50 feedback that are scamming they will put up an auction for low dollar amounts, and either buy it themselves or have a friend buy it, and then leave positive feedback. I was looking at some part or another that was on ebay, don't remember what and the guy had like 65 or so all positive and I am thinking ok pretty good and I even bid on the item, then out of curiousity I got looking at what else he had sold, funny thing he got positive feedback for the same item 15 times I retracted my bid.
Actually, it is easy to file a petition, and they do work on it, I have been involved in such. In the end, the feedback remains, but states mututally withdrawn, and does not affect your rating.Ebay does monitor it, and if reported, will take necessary action.
I usually have waited for them to get their item, have reasonable time to check it out, and then leave feedback. I have left them feedback before they left it for me, I just prefer it be in their hands before I do. Part of a buyer's behavior is how they respond to the item as well. I also review seller's feedback if not perfect to see just what the complaints were, and any responses the seller had to it. If it is petty garbage, I will make my own decision. SOme of the big sellers have negative points, so I checked them out, and have like 20 negative in the last month, those I stay away from, because that is just too much. Many of the negatives were over not shipping, not refunding after not shipping, or poor quality. The no ship no refund worries me more than anything....
