I just installed a cd player, and I thought everything was connected corretly, until I set all my radio presets and adjusted all the equalizers and such, then when I turned the truck off and back on again everything was gone. Its wierd though, if I have the key turned all the way back and reset everything then start it the memory stays, but not when I turn it off and start it again.
Heres a picture of the wiring diagram I used to splice the head unit harness into the stock harness.

Now I have the black and pink wire which is fused ignition, and the light green and violet both connected to the memory/batt and switch ignition/12 volt all connected together. I tryed connecting the memory/batt to the light green and violet, and the ignition/12 volt connected to the black and pink wire but it wouldn't turn on that way. Does anyway have any idea why this isn't working right?
Yeah thats what I figured, thats why I was asking on here, I had it connected to the factory harness wire that was for the memory and had the other power wire connected to the factory switched ignition wire and it wouldn't work. So I tryed connected them all together and it works except for the memory.
Not quite sure what you mean that u tied them all together?? You should have one wire for memory and that needs to be tied into a constant 12v source ! One that is not EVER turned off by any key or any switch!!
I have all of them twisted together just for now until I figure out whats wrong, in the diagram it shows a red/black for power, but there is no red/black in my harness? It says 2001 for that though so I figured the wiring was differnt in 01 so I just connected all four together to see what happened.
Sorry if I sound stupid but I'm only 18 and I'm pretty good at the mechanical side but not so up on the electrical stuff. The head unit I got has 3 main wires I guess you could call them- Red which says acc/ignition, a yellow that says memory/batt and a black which is ground. So I figured the red one goes to the factory black/pink which is fused ignition, the yellow goes to the light green and violet which is memory power and the black goes to black. Would this be right? When I did this nothing happened, so I figured something was wrong.
thanks for your help
First off are we talking about the wires from the HU or the truck harness? Most of the time the the wires from the radio are going to be red keyed power black ground and yellow is for power antenna ! Do you have the wire dia for the radio? if so what are the colors?
The red, yellow and black wires I was referring to are the wires from the HU harness, and other wires that are two colors are the wires for the truck harness. All the info on what wire is for what I got from a Haynes Manual and I have the pic of the page posted, and the HU harness has each wire labeled what they are for.
The HU harness only has 3 main wires then the rest are for the speakers, power antenna, and dimmer.
OK ! If you have got the radio to power up and the speakers are all working then just make sure you put the memory wire on a hot terminal somewhere! Even if you have to run to the fuse box! Just make sure hot all the time!
Either you have connected to the wrong memory wire in the truck or you blew the fuse while installing the harness. Use a test light and see if you find a constant power, if not check the fuses and will will likely find one blown.
Yellow is the memory wire on the radio side , the truck half should be light green possibly with a stripe , if you used a plug kit -harness , to plug into your truck you would be matching up the colors , Craig.
