400M INTO A '70 F-250
I HAVE A 1970 F-250, WITH A 360. THE 360 IS A LITTLE OLD AND HAS WHAT I HAVE HEARD BEEN CALLED BIG FORD HAMMER AND IT DRIVES ME NUTS! I ALSO HAVE A '79 LINCOLN WITH A 400M WITH LESS THAN 70,000 MILES. I WAS WONDERING WHAT WOULD BE INVOLVED IN CHANGING THE MOTOR INTO THE TRUCK. I KNOW THE TRANNY WOULD HAVE TO GO WITH IT, BUT WHAT OTHER THINGS WOULD HAVE TO BE DONE TO GET IT DONE.

Tim are you mad with us, if you aint, please stop shouting at us, (loose the CAPS).
You can use the motor, they were used in 78-79, mostly 4X4 trucks. Some guys sware by them, others at them. You didn't say which tranny setup that you have.
I would recomend that you rebuild the FE. Put 390 pistons and crank in it, and in the opinion of a lot of us here, you'll have a much better setup.

Tim, the front part of the frames are the same from 65 to 79, so if you get the brackets and mounts from a 78 or 79 truck that had an M engine you should be all set. But I have to agree with John, building a 390 for your truck would be great. How about driving on the 400 while the 390 is under construction? DF

I agree with u'guys,I should rebuild the FE motor.I like the engine design better. With the shaft mounted rockers and the angled plug heads, it's a better design than the 400. And a better design than anything that brandX put out for along time, until the late 90's.(maybe)And this being an engine design that came out in 1958. But the Lincoln is just sitting, and I hate to see an good engine just rot away, so I would like to put the 400 in for the meanwhile.
Is the tranny the same length as the c-6 I have now?
Help me boys, 'cause I'm driving a camaro right now and any thing that would help the old truck to be more solid, would help fix that brand x thing. Thank you for the help you gentlemen have all ready giving me

Like the DF told you go to your favorite salvage yard and grab the engine perches of a donor truck. Check the oil pan, because some of these engines have different pans from the truck to the car. If you get one off a same bed length as yours grab the driveshaft while you are there.
