360 / 351m need help?

I Have A 1976 Ford F-150 4 X4 With A 351m-400m Not Sure Which, The Vin Is F14yrc60268. Now Here Is The Problem, The Vin Says It Came With A 360 But The Truck Has A 351m. I Guess They Changed It Out At Some Point, But I'm Sure What All They Did. The Fram Steal Motor Mounts Look Stock. But Now That I Know It Came With A 360 I Want To Put A 360 Back In Since The 351m-400m In It Is Worn Out.
Will It Be A Fast In And Out Or Will I Have To Look For A 360 With A Bell That Will Fit.

The FE bell housing is unique to the FE engines. I have read that the steel engine perches from the I-6 are the same as the FE.

BUT...a 460 will bolt to the bell housing currently in the truck.

You do have a few choices, the 360 may not be the best. The 4x4s came with the 360, but you can get better mileage from a 390.

Just what do you want to do with the truck? A few choices can make a big difference power and economy.

Well the truck will be my hunting rig, but the ranch is 1.5 hrs away. fuel is a factor but not to much. Now power will be some thing I will need. The truck has a four speed manual tranny geared so low you need to take off in second. I have a 84 short bed ford with a I-6 that may help out but I don't know.

Now for the parts list what all will I need? and where should I look?

For anything other than a straight swap, you need to find an engine with all the brackets on the front. A parts vehicle and place to store it would save a lot of headaches.

Just a few thoughts:
If you WANT to run the FE, go with a 390. It's worth any extra percieved cost or trouble.

A 460 will bolt to the bell you already have. It is a common swap. I'm not sure how many other parts you can keep off the current engine for a 385 series.

FTE also has an engine swap forum, and a '73 to '79 truck forum. I'm sure they can give you answers to questions I don't know to ask. LOL
