my 1997 f 150 has just about 95,000 on it..im changing the plugs in it the week of the 3rd.. im also thinking on doing the coolant and tranny at the same time...my question is this on the tranny do we drop the pan like the old days or is there a plug just like the oil...is there like a drain at the bottom of the radiator..thanks alan

There is a drain valve on the radiator. It is at the bottom on the passenger side. For the tranny you will need to drop the pan.

There should also be a drain plug in the torque converter to drain it as well.

yea a 97 should have the torque converter plug. it looks like a 1/8 inch pipe plug in the bottom of converter. need to look up the hole under the flywheel and turn the converter till the plug is at the bottom. if you do this you will get about 8 quarts of old oil out. the trans pan will be another 5 quarts. be sure to do the filter, and clean the bottom of the pan and the magnet, thats where the crud sets.
