Well, not to be an A@@hole. But, this is a very old thread... I have decided to change my 390 over to a 428 and just rebuild it.. Gonna keep it all ford.. Although this truck only gets maybe 500 miles on it a year... The motor is ready for the rebuild. I beat the crap out of this truck when I first got this truck 12 years ago... After doing some researching and talking to some drag racers I know. They have convinced me to do what I have mentioned above. They aren't diehard Ford people either. They said something about parts for these motors are becoming more and more readily available. Like I have said in other forums. My truck is a very rare setup... Although Bigfoot did something similar. So, if anyone wants to check it out go here.

You'll know what I mean by me saying I beat the crap out of it.. I have gotten air many times in it. Theres a picture on the page to show this. Good luck guys..
Yellowbeast, did you ever get an answer on gear ratio? As you wondered, you can count the teeth on the ring gear and divide by the teeth on the pinion gear. This link might help you get it figured out without taking it apart. Just be sure to read all the way to the end, cause the guys were thinking outloud...lol

Congrats on keeping the 390/428. I'm playing with flatheads which are expensive and aftermarket parts are something else, but after a paradigm shift, I don't want to play with anything else - well, maybe the 400 I have to rebuild will be just as addicting. Good luck with your rig.
