I got a 78 f250, 4x4, with 400, auto trans. Lately the engine has been shutting down at idle. It just shuts down, like the key switch has been turned off. It will fire back up instantly, only if I reset the switch to off position, then proceed to starting position. Anyone else ever have this problem?
Next time it does it to you, Try this, pour cold water over it but do NOT RECYCLE your ignition Switch thru key Off + engine Off to Key On + Eng start + Eng on.
Pour cold water on the case to cool it, then go directly to Start, if it fires change your module. And stay away from "off brands". Get a Motorcraft if you can. I'd run a used Motorcraft before I'd run a new Wells or some other aftermarket brands. . . .
Yeah Pete, I had the same trouble with aftermarket Duraspark replacements. For the extra $20, the Motorcraft was well worth it! Went through two aftermarket parts in two months or so until going to the dealership.
