I'm still relatively new to the late '70's ownership era and would like to know how to identify a Highboy. May seem like a dumb question, but identifying characteristics are on highboy?
well, I have a 75 highboy, other than the hieght I really don't know what to tell ya. If you want I could snap some pics of the underside of my truck and send them to you, maybe that would give you something to compare to?
The 73-79 models had 73-77.5 F-250 4x4s and they were highboys.
I want to say the 67-72 model F-250 4x4s are highboys too.
They came from the factory alittle higher than most 4x4s(about 2"s).
Also the end of the frame(near the end of the bed) is alittle narrower than regular trucks.
Actually the Highboys have a 4" lift, Leaf Springs in the Front, Hydraulic Asst Steering.
But the easiest way to tell is to look for the telltale front spring mount. Its a crossbar that runs from framerail to framerail and mounts the leaf springs You can see it in this photo of my truck from the F100s this past may..
If I see another one of these threads im going to stab myself
Don't look then. Its not as if these posts are taking up space from all of the EXCITING action on this forum. Just as much space is wasted by whining about it.
Last time I checked... these were LIFT blocks.. and its 4 inches not 2 ... I dont like this topic and ive had this discussion so many different times on different forums, no matter what you call it, its taller, its factory, and its lift blocks in the back and the front of the springs are moved inward to sit under the frame. While its not a typical suspension lift.. i dunno what else to call it..
i thought these forums were for asking questions with out being belittled???? sometimes its easier to just ask instead of researching the whole site. i'm relatively new here but, if you don't want to answer skip over it. i understand you guys know your *****, but not all of us have the time or $$$$$$$ to know it all. this will probably be deleted. so i apologise in advance.
Many trucks have lift blocks in the rear, but they are not considered factory lifts. Just a way to get the ride height where they want it without using really stiff springs.
Its not a lift kit, its just they way they built it.

As I was saying the highboys were 2"s higher than other 4x4s.
I'm glad you took out your tape measure, but I can take mine out too, and most 4x4s have 2" blocks, so highboys have 4" blocks(let me take out my calculator) which makes them 2"s taller.
The link I recommended in my reply is in a "READ FIRST" thread where every user who comes to a forum with them posted is expected to read them
"at least once."
Eric, put the " BEST EXPLANATION OF A HIGHBOY" in that thread so someone can get the info in one post.
I have a feeling the problem here is the Monotonous question
" What is a Highboy"
not the discussion of highboys and their special characteristics.
There is a difference
The explanation of a Highboy is already available
There is no belittlement of users it is the frustration of constantly seeing this "ONE question" when there is a Notice to read a thread that involves that question .....when one enters a forum.
How many here have read Every READ FIRST thread and if you haven't ....why not ?
