I'm going to look at a 2002 F-250 PSD Ext Cab 4x4 with weekend. It has a lift on it (maybe a 4'' lift) and from the pictures it looks like it has the stock exhuast. Is there anything I should ask about, look for or feel for during a test drive. It has 58,000 miles on it and they want $30,000 but the saleman said he could get it down to $25,000 or maybe lower. Thanks in advance

$25k or less is getting into the good deal range. Get maintenance records, previous owner info, OASIS report, Carfax then check the usual like brake rotors/pads, fluid levels, oil in engine valley, oil from weep hole underneath(at torque converter cover). It's due for the big 60k service but we got u covered there.

I've said it once and ill say it again - make sure this thing was never a fleet vehicle...never owned by some business in town as their workhorse. Best case scenario, this truck only had one previous owner. Nut is right...you want maintenance records (to show that all fluid changes and maintenance have been done accordingly) and you'll want to pull a carfax on the VIN number. Almost any dealer in town has access to carfax for a small fee...or the dealer you are going to might pull you one for free. You can also access carfax online for $20 or something.
Id be curious to know what kind of lift it has on it (quality or not). For physical signs, Nut had ya covered, but if there's something wrong with the truck you should be able to feel it when you drive it. Go and test drive some other nice diesels in town just so you have a basis for comparison. ALSO...when I get serious about a vehicle...I always take it straight to a trusted mechanic (for me, aka the men in my family) If you don't have this option, you can always get the fluids tested or pay $100 for a professional to come out and look at the vehicle. Diesel Mag had a great article a few months back about what to look for when you're buying a used Diesel, no way i'm finding that magazine right now..lol...but if you go to your local library they should have a copy of it.
Do yourself a favor and pull off the intake boot right at the turbo inlet and have a look at the turbo to make sure it hasn't been dusted. The vanes/blades/fins/impellers or whatever you prefer to call them should be clean and straight with nice edges. Try to move the "wheel" itself in and out, up and down on the shaft and check for play.
Try to find out if it's been chipped or had a tuner.
Also, give the engine compartment the usual going over paying particular attention to the top area looking for fluid leaks around the valley area. Leaks from the fuel bowl area are not as bad ($) as HPOP or turbo pedestal leaks are. Any fluid leakage in the turbo area requires serious investigation.
Thanks alot, the I believe it has ProComp shocks on it. I will be looking at either tonight or tommarrow so I will let you guys know. THanks for all the advice.
