88 B2 multi function switch...

I just bought my 1988 Ford Bronco 2 and i love it. The owner before me took real good care of it, and replaced alot of parts. But he said, if the headlights go out again (he already replaced the headlight switch) then its the multi function switch inside the column. So they went out. I bought a new switch for it. Comes to find out, its not the switch, it the top wiring harnness that go into the switch, the bottom one is fine. One of the coners of the top one is melted. Im guessing thats the headlight part of it. Ive been everywhere, dearlerships, a billion auto parts stores, and online, and no one seems to have or cant get one. You guys are one of my last ideas. PLEASE HELP. If you are parting a 88 B2, then please write back.

If you have had this problem and have fixed it, please tell me what you did.

Thanks

I agree. For BIIs junkyards & u-pull-em yards will be your friends and main source of OEM parts due to the age of the vehicles.

the headlight switch and multi-function switch pigtails are available from parts stores and online. i had a similar problem and the main issue i found was that the wiring harness to the pigtail had gotten hot from loose connections and melted the connector assembly some. 2 inches of wire, butt splice, and female quick disconnect and some persuasion later... no more problem! you can also go junkyard shopping as well, but I prefer new parts, if possible.... because you end up in the same situation quicker with used parts, unless you do a little "reconditioning" prior to install. just my $0.02

Here is a photo of the dimmer switch: http://www.rockauto.com/ref/ACDelco/....html?F801.jpg It might help you explain what you need.

Hey everyone, if you care, then this is for you. I got my lights to work yesterday. I went to a junk yard about 25 miles away and they had 1 1987 B2 Eddie Bauer. I look in and saw nothing on the column, everything on it was already taken. Then i look down and saw the top pigtail that i need just dangling there. I did this... when i saw it . Got it for 10 bucks. Took it home, put it in, pulled the switch... and it worked. I thought i would never be so happy to see headlights.
