i'll try that, but first let me give the whole picture....
pulled old truck out of barn after 15 to 20 yrs of sitting
replaced bat and cables, oil, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, points, and coil. hooked boat tank to fuel pump and checked fuel filter. added oil to all cylinders. truck ran. then an hour or so later it didn't run so we added more oil to cylinders, ran fine idled good, in fact ran good for about a week with short trips up and down the road at 45 max. then it did what i mentioned above. it ran rough one day and the next when i started it, it ran rough, died and hasn't started since. it tries but just won't start.
Check you pionts gap. It could have sliped shut on you. Mine use to do that all the time. After you do that then take your plugs out and wire brush them and put them back in. It could have fouled a plug.

Did that already but have not changed oil. hope to get to it this weekend. thanks anyway.

ok i missed your post yesterday but here's where i'm at today.... 1 no carb rebuild.
2. new gas in boat tank hooked to fuel pump.
3. regular gas
4. using old fsteel line from pump to carb.
today i checked timing mark with tdc, with location of rotor.
all plugs have good spark so yes i think the next step is to rebuild carb. I know i should have done it first but i get so excited.!!! plus it seemed like timing. i'll check into a rebuild kit tomm. if i have time.
ok, i finished the carb rebuild, put it back on and still nothing. it tries to start but just wont. noticing a bit of smoke from breather while cranking. what next? should i pull the valve cover and check for a stuck valve?
