Besides a complete rebuild and a trans gauge, (cant afford right now) what mods would you recommend to the trans? Im running the edge juice with attitude and 4in magnaflow exhaust for now with hopes of more mods in the future. I dont know of any problems with as of right now just want to do some preventive things to make it last longer.
i am in the same boat as you. don't have the dough for a BTS unit yet, but still want it to slush out my torque i put into it. on another board, i was looking at the 6.0 Torque Converter (5R110) and the adapter parts from John Wood transmissions. www.jwtt.com -- they say it's about $125 from JW, and somone said that you can get a new torque converter from the stealer for about $160?? that seems low for such a part, but you can get them locally or ebay, whatever. it is a triple disc unit, and the stall speed is lower on the converter, so it may feel laggy (too much torque strewn to the ground vs. RPM), but it is not affected when the engine is running a hotter program.
then, add a valve body or shift kit, and it will make it a whole new feeling transmission they say. i have a shift kit, and i want to do the 5r110 converter as soon as i find one.

I just ordered a BTS converter and valve body, but of course I then had to order a chip from Jody Tipton FIRST so the valve body would work right . I also have the same Edge box you do.. From what I understand if you do the converter, valve body, and trans cooler you should be good.
anybody else ran the 6.0 converter ? any more infor strokin?

$1059 is what I believe the converter cost. I'm going off of the reputation of BTS and the word of many people that have used these products, I hope they work well.
they certainly arent an aftermarket triple disc converter, but it's a hell of a lot better than what we have....ALOT better. AND, if you blow up the stock transmission with that expensive converter, chances are that the transmission will take the converter with it too. i don't want to put a $1000 converter in my truck without a beefed up transmission behind it. the $300 converter is a good compromise of performance and price, and it won't be a major loss if you manage to break some metal loose in the transmission.
my best run so far was about 120hp over a stock truck. with my modifications (not on a stock truck) and running on a stock fueling program, it made 203hp i think. the power run was 291hp. im guessing a bone stock truck is around 185hp.
