yes you can if you find enough room and a spin on that dose the same with a magnet to catch what come out of the cooler when something blows up and gets stuck in it .
I stuck the filter on the outside of the frame. Bent the return line at a 90 and added a new line to the tranny. I used one of the holes for the heatshield and drilled one more.
I've stuck an old speaker magnet to the end of mine, just in case. Filter was clean the first time I checked it.
out side of the rail? man are you asking for problems. if you should hit something in the road or have a accident on the right side by the time you turn the key off no fuild .
It's way high. Anything that I hit that could get it there will flip the truck or otherwise stop it anyways. I'd actually like to get it up front somewhere, just for access, and because it would be better protected. I just needed longer lines than I had at the time.
I'm glad I went with the Magnafine In-line, it's a real nice filter. Thanks for the heads-up on that one Charlie! I was going to install the canister style but after reading up on the Magnafine I opted for it instead. You can't get any easier when it comes to an install either. I got mine from Napa for $33 but have since found them online for about $14. It's recommended to change them every 10,000 miles so I figure I'll change it after every other oil change. When I installed my new trans pan I noticed that the magnet had a lot of fuzz on it so hopefully this filter will catch most of that before it gets back to the tranny. Time will tell I guess.
it sure sems that way it being a top notch product esp. when you read their web site and see that all the big 3 are recordmending it and furishing them with factory rebuilt units.
