i lost the thread with the inline filter add on in it so heres a up date ,
the kit from ford that was found part number 2w4z-7b155d
the filter in the kit is a muliti purpose one that not only has a paper filter filter, but also a magnetic trap one and a bypass valve built in to it. and it's made down under by www.magnefine.com and kited out by ford.
the kit has 2 fittings to adapt the line useing a compression fitting on the metal lines to a single barbed hose useing a very high strengh high pressure hose to the ends of the filter and 4 heavy duty hose clamps to hold it all together .
i'll try later to photo the kit and post it up for the crew here , maybe it can get a link latter into super duty as it also for the diesels . looks very well worth the price .
I think my SD has the inline tranny filter too. I will have to look again, but I remember seeing something on the passanger side. Not sure if it is stock...as I purchased my 2003 last Nov. '05.
When I take that look...I will see if I can get a filter part number off. I'll post back...

the kit is for the 5r110w .that has the filter by the radiator, but yet ford supplys it with a rebuilt unit them selfs. guess its because of the magnet inside the filter.
My '01 doesn't have a filter but I want to put one in. While I was at a Ford parts place yesterday I asked them about an inline filter and what they showed me was a small canister that looked just like our fuel filters only smaller and it was black plastic. I passed, I'm sure that there is something better out there.
Captchas, any idea how much one of those things cost?
thats the filter KB you would not believe what's is inside it . a very fine paper and a magnet plus a bypass valve for when it gets full.
as tp price ed from ford discount parts the sponser loged in with the full kit price of $34. ?? for it . the kit has the filter 2 h.d. high pressure hoses, 2 brass fittings to adapt the 1/2 metal cooler lines useing compression fittings on one end to the brabed hose end and 4 hd hoes clamps.
the company that makes the filter also states and can be used for the ps system and that it filters out 99% of the trash. www.magnefilter.com for more information as they aslo make a 5/16 and a 3/8 one so it is really a good universal filter .
wrong link www.magnefine.com i also found a place for just the element at 17 .00

Charlie, where did you find the kit and just the element? I'm doing searches on some of the sponsors links and can't find the anywhere.
give ed a email he is a ford dealers parts manager.fte sponnser and in the 1st thread he posted 34 dollars and some change for the kit.
i feel it's well worth it as the company that makes it also sells to gm and dcx. all the specs are in the companys web site.
5/16ths and 3/8 are made but you need to make your own adapters to go from metal to hose for the filter.

Just a little tidbit of info. I work for a construction equipment dealer and we set up alot of trucks to pull trailers and such. The Magnefine sales rep came in about 2 years ago w/ a whole pile of these filters claiming they were the greatest thing sliced bread. So my sales manager is a bit of a sucker and he went for it, hook, line and sinker.
We've installed probably a 6 or 8 of these between our trucks and a few customer trucks. Needless to say, none of them are still on any of the trucks to my knowledge. Everyone that we installed on the transmission ended up blowing off or blowing apart due to the line pressure. One customer made it a whole mile down the road before we had to send a service truck down to button the lines back up and refill his tranny. We installed one that I know of on the steering system of a 2003 SD and it lasted 2 days. The driver got into a pinch and was working the wheel back and forth from lock to lock and POOOFF, off it came spewing power steering fluid everywhere.
Now in their defense, one of my mechanics installed one on his little 4 cylinder commuter car's tranny and it's still there. Also, the one that my sucker sales manager installed on his wife's minivan is still in place, but they don't seem to hold up on large vehicles. Also, after selling us these fine filters, we haven't seen the sales rep since. Coincidence? You decide. Just be careful.
Time will tell I guess, I just installed mine yesterday along with the new trans pan from PML. That is one nice pan, it uses the factory reuseable seal unlike other pans that I've heard about that uses an o-ring which has a tendancy to leak.
tendancy to ? you mean will leak don't you? i was promised a new one for mine that leaked. still waiting ,but they do make good ones for other tranies shame thier 5r110w 's oring is inside the case. funny thing thou we put that very same pan on a 4r100 and no leak. seems the 5r has a thinner case by the tail housing that causes the problem.
another good pan is the one from ford racing also uses the stock reusable gasket and adds 3 qts. and on a gas motor you don't have to butcher the xover pipe to make it fit.
