Is there anything special I should be concerned about when changing my fuel filter? (92 Bronco V8 351 EFI). I know i have to disconnect the possitive on the battery and depressurize by opening the gas cap but is there anything more? Thanks.
Does the 92 use the quick disconnect fittings on the gas line. My 94 takes a special tool to remove the filter. If you need the tool you can buy it at the auto parts.
If you got dirt in the quick disconnects that can make it impossible to disconnect, but you can use compressed air to blow it out, or a needle/small pick to clean it out.
yea i took a look yesterday at the fuel filter and it has some dirt around the quick disconnects. Ill try to blow it out with some compressed air, it seems pretty loose the dirt so it should work. thanks.
place tool over fuel line, push the tool all the way in toward spring, push the fuel lines towards each other while pushing the tool inward and then pull fuel lines apart. The fuel lines should separate, and sometimes can be stubborn.
Use either car ramps or jack stands to lift the front end up. Will need quick disconnect tools for fuel line, and a flat tip screw driver. Use rags to help to keep thing clean.
After your done, it will be time to hit the showers.
i was going to do the job after I changed my oxygen sensor, but after reading that I had to relieve the gas line pressure I stopped. I dont own a tool to release the pressure on the gas line. Will anything else work? I have jack stands to jack the front up but I didnt want to lose any gas, well not that much anyway .
I just let it sit several hours before crawling under. At 200 lbs I am not thin but for safety reasons prefer not to jack anything up unless really necessary. Just scoot around to a good working position that is not right under the filter.
If you look at your fuel rail on the drivers side of the engine you will see a shrader valve with a cap on it at the end of the fuel rail. Remove the cap, release the pressure using punch, screwdriver etc. to push the needle in the shrader valve down to releave the pressure and your good to go.
