spare tire on side of bed.

i am lookingto trade my 85 f150 for a 51? the grill is right but it doesnt have the indention in the passenger side fender for the spare. what years did. thanks , primer, and it will be primer51f1.if i get it.

Primer, it's a pain in the neck to change your handle! You have to start from scratch with no email capability or anything!

not going to change my handle , just wanted to tell what the truck would look like. gotta keep the handle out of respect for the 85 she is a great truck. just not my dream.

looked throug galleries and can only find one 51 with the spare tire mount, the sanford and son truck . maybe its a cali thing?

No, it's an F2 and up thing. There isn't room on the F1's running board for a spare - although some guys have rigged up their own. Requires either holding it out away from the cab or making a really deep indent in the rear fender.

Form my literature, 1954 was the first year Ford had a side mount spare for a F-100 with the dimpled fender. As someone said earlier bigger trucks might had a side mount but did not have the dimpled fender since the running boards were longer and it fit in there. These might have been owner made.

On my 49 there are signs that something was bolted to the passenger bed side. The running board is torn up and stress cracked where something was bolted towards the rear of it. Above it on the bed rail there is a 6" to 8" area where you can tell something was bolted on. I was just guessing that it was a spare tire mount.

I'm trying to repair the running board right now......agh
