I recently have been looking into the idea of possibly putting a 7.3 IDI diesel into a 87-91 Bronco. I orginally thought of getting a bronco as a project vehicle and putting a 351 in it when I got the idea. How different is the full-size bronco from the F-series? Are they similar enough for this to work? My main concern is whether or not the front suspension and frame can handle the extra weight. I know that people have put 460s in broncos, but will a diesel work with minimum amount of trouble?
Bronco diesel conversions have been done before, but with major mods and lighter diesel engines.
I have seen one out there, somewhere on the web, with a Cummins 4-cylinder. Its only 800lbs I believe, just 200 more than the 460. But to be safe this would also require axle/suspension mods. If offroading, you may need a counterbalance!
