Outboard Motor Help Needed
This weekend the starter fell off my 40 hp Force motor.
The starter is held on by two bolts. One goes into the block and the other bolt attaches to a aluminum tab that is formed on the block edge.
The bolts came loose and the aluminum threaded tab broke.
How can you fix this? Can I get a welder to build up the area of the aluminum tab and drill it out and then install a helicoil.
If so would welding this close to the elctronics hurt anything. Any help is appreciated.

that block may not be aluminum--may be magnesium--but still can be welded--will need to block off areas of block with a heat dam--welder should know how to do this if hes worth his salt--remove everything you can out of the area to help out the welder--and yes--you can build up anything--and shouldnt have to helicoil the new piece--but maybe the other hole--and its probably metric--

Any idea how much this may cost? Ball park estimate.
94 Turbo is correct in his assumption that the other hole is stripped.
Public Service Announcment
You can hold a starter in place with a boat paddle and crank the motor. It's also very difficult to pull start a outboard motor with a rope.
