Hello, Since someone has already attempted to help themselves to the diesel in my new truck (thwarted by the locking cap), I believe it is time for an alarm system. Does anyone have the Ford Vehicle Security Kit installed on their Super Duty? If so, how do you like it? Thank you for your input!
The Ford system is a basic system made by Code-Alarm. It's not bad and it does the job alright. But if your serious about alarms, take a look around and see what's currently offered by other manufacturers. There are 2-way paging systems, systems with remote start, and systems that have more features than the Ford system. The Ford system is not plug-n-play so it would have to be installed the same as any other system. That is to say, cutting and splicing into the trucks electrical system. And more likely than not, if you're not installing it yourself, but having the dealer do it. You're going to be paying the dealer to send it out to a local shop and spending more than if you had just gone to a local shop yourself.
Excellent advice EnviroCon. The Ford Factory system is really just an aftermarket box with a Ford label! Don't expect it to be plug and play. Aftermarket is probably best for now, I guess Ford doesn't want a Plug and Play model because it might hurt the aftermarket or alarm installers might loose their job!
I have a new 2006 F250. I looked at a few local auto security shops, but the shops reminded me of when I go to Tijuana, so I went with Ford. Another reason I went with Ford is if anything ever happens to the alarm, Ford fixes it. Not sure how long some of those auto stereo/alarm shops will be around. Be sure to ask about discounts at the Ford dealer. I saved 20% by being an AAA member.
I have to agree with KyleKai. When I purchased my new 2006, I decided to go with the Ford unit. I am not saying it is the best out there, and a good theif will be able to get around most security systems out there, but this unit will be warrantied for the 3year/60000km warranty through Ford.
I also wanted the autostart which is part of this system. So far I am pleased with it.
