The Dynomax headers I just installed fit very poorly. I had to mangle one pipe to get the headers in, it was hitting the power steering unit. After finally getting them in, I noticed that the driver side exhausts directly into the C6 transmission linkage. It would be almost impossible to plumb up a pipe and have the linkage work well.
Looks like I've wasted another $200 on this !@#$ project.
Has anybody purchased headers for a 67-72 f250, 2wd with an FE engine, power steering and a C6 auto, that fit good? If so, what and where?
have you contacted ford powertrain yet? I've heard nothing but good about them, but it's a matter of getting what you pay for they are good but they get what they are worth out of you
I bought a set of headers for my 68 w/360 C6, I think they were black jack or headmen. the instructions actually said to bend the tab on the tranny to clear the headers. It's a 2wd column shift, the headers fit fine but I did have to bend the linkage a bit to get clearance and it didn't effect shifting.
Gtex, how about Stan's ? Proeliator likes his from them, and I have never heard anybody complain about that brand. http://www.stans-headers.com/ Give them a look DF
Absolutely get another set of headers, just because the manufacturer says they will fit doesn't mean they will. I've run 2 different sets of headers on my 69 over the years but have tried 4 sets total. I would not be against bending a tab or part of a linkage if it would not cause other problems. They can and do make them fit just try different brands. I believe I have blackjacks on it now. I have the instruction sheet that came with them but no manufacturer markings. It metions in the instructions about bending the shift linkage arm on a C-6.
After some more mangling, bending, tweaking, adjusting, modifying and just plain forcing...we managed to get the headers to clear the tranny and linkage. I did a 180 on the linkage and then bent the headers out enough to fit in a 2.5" pipe. Now I've got a leak at the heads. It may have been there before, but I could not hear it over the noise from the open headers. The additional back-pressure may also be to blame for helping the leak form. I'll probably go with Stan's if I end up replacing these.
