My computer has been running very slow recently. Its constantly doing, something. The virus scanner deteced a virus: Java/Openstream. Is this the problem though is what im wondering. Im aware sometimes you can make virus problems much worse by trying to remove them so im not sure if i should try to remove it.
There are very few programs on my computer running at the same time. Even after i close most of them the computers performance is unaffected. Also im not detecting any spyware/adware and im pretty good at that aspect as i used to have a computer that had a nasty case of spyware. Im not ruling that out but im just saying i doubt thats the cause.
back up your important files, bookmarks, and e-mails. Reformat your HDD with a fresh install of windows, and experience freedom like you've never felt.
I want to fix this problem, i normally dont have a problem running a computer for 8months+. On top of that like i said there really isnt much on my hard drive at the moment. I dont like the idea of formatting everytime i get a problem with the computer.

First Look at the task manager processes to see what is using your CPU. I have seen where failed print documents have stuck in the PC and chew up CPU time.
Next google the file name that is using CPU time. This will help identify what program is the culprit.
Most likely it is either Spyware/Malware or a virus. Are you running an AntiVirus program? If so run a full scan and remove any viruses.
Oops! just read it again and you said it detected a virus... Yes Definitely remove it. You can go to symantec or any other site to learn more about the virus and see if they have a removal tool.
What are you using to remove/protect against spyware?
I recommend Spywareblaster and spybot. They are freeware and work great..
I have seen PC's with other vendor spyware programs and they still got the nasties....
If you want you can PM me with more info..
Don't reformatt unless absolutely necessary.. It's a pain in the ****....
I use bazooka spyware scanner. The task manager says theres 34processes running at once, however none of them are doing much. It says its using 0% but itll jump up to like 2 then back to 0 for a few of them. Ill remove the virus and see what happens.

The number of processes is not an issue. It they are jumping to 2 then back then they are not slowing the computer. You will see up to 99% if it is monopolizing the reasources.
I am not familar with Bazooka spyware so I can't judge it.
I had an issue with 4 of my computers at work. They just started running slow, very slow. The 5th computer was fine and was running Firefox instead of Internet Explorer. I installed Firefox on the other four computers and also ran a registery cleaner on the other four.
This helped me a great deal. All are running fine now.
NOTE: Since I started using a NON Internet Explorer browser, my spyware/adware software has been very bored. Nothing for it to find. The last two days I have had to visit some GA state websites that only work with IE and each morning for the last three days, there has been 4 to 5 adwares/spywares cleaned.
Just my opinion on what helped me with my computers at work.
