I just replaced and gapped the points in my 1959 f100 with a 223. The old points were corroded which caused the engine to run rough under load. When i put the new points in the pickup ran great for the test run (2 miles)but started to run rough on my second trip (4 miles). The new points have a yellowish green tint to them already. I have 12 volts to the coil with the key on. Is this too much? I have not replaced the condensor yet. How can I test my regulator? Thank you for any help.
I'm more of an "other brand" guy, but have you removed the ballast resistor? That would cause full voltage to the points on a Ch**y back in the early days.
Thanks for the response guys. Is the resistor on the fender right next to the regulator? If I replace the coil with an internal resistor coil would that accomplish the same thing?
