Tymar Intake

Just finished installing my new Tymar Intake. Had them powdercoat the pipe black and it looks sweet and was simple to install.

Question is though, when I pulled off the rubber intakes to the turbo, there was all kinds of oil and grit on the inside. The turbo blades were clean as was the turbo housing but I'm wondering where the oil was coming from and why?

it comes from the ccv in the intermediate pipe off of the vc. it supposed to be like that. if you dont like it check out the ccv mod.

Oil is typical and can be solved with the ccv mod but, Grit on the other hand is really bad. Take a very close look at your tubo blades they should be sharp and crisp. Search this forum for "dusted turbo" for pictures.

Mine was dusted when I put my Tymar on. I got up to 18psi boost with the new intake. Replacing the turbo a month or so later got me another 4psi boost. The vanes on a dusted turbo look like they've been sandblasted (which they have).

Thanks for the info...I'm guessin the grit came from 10 years of stuff that was sucked by the filter in the stock intake box, which should not be a problem anymore since the new filter is hooked directly to the intake. Right?

Is the money for a new turbo worth the extra 4psi boost? Is replacing the turbo the same as replacing the compressor wheel? And do I want a wicked wheel or is stock as good?

When you're pulling 10k through LA traffic, any extra help is worth it. I got mine, a factory-new replacement, off eBay for $430. Replacing the compressor wheel doesn't do anything for worn cases, bearings, etc. Can't comment on the wicked wheel.

Right

Probably don't need either one as you said the wheel looked good. If you do decide to change the wheel your stock wheel is basically the same thing as the wicked wheel.
